You’ve Landed the Interview…now what?

Congratulations, you’ve scored an interview with that top work from home job you wanted! Now comes the next part: the interview. While not every work at home job requires an interview (usually by telephone), there are several of them that do. Either way, you need to be prepared to have what it takes to get the job.

Here are some work from home interviewing tips for you to keep in mind:

1.) When asked, “Why do you want to work from home?,” don’t state the obvious reasons (which are likely to be home with your children, to have more time for family, etc.), but rather something like “I enjoy working independently, and feel like I thrive when doing so. I want to feel that satisfaction every day that I work.”

2.) Explain why you are the best person for the job by simply selling yourself. Without bragging, exemplify to the interviewer why your skills and experience make you a perfect match for the job.

3.) Don’t chew gum, or have anything in your mouth during the interview.

4.) Set a time for the phone interview to be when your household is most quiet. While an employer is sure to understand that you may be working home with children, and that there may be noise from time to time, you want to make a really good first impression on that interview. You can best do that in a quiet, relaxed environment. During the interview, the interviewer wants to be made to feel as though he or she is the most important.

5.) Never give on just how much you want this job to the point at which you seem desperate. Simply express why you want to work for the company, and why you would be perfect for the job.

These are just a few tips to help you when it comes time for that phone interview. If you have any other interview questions, just let me know!

  1. When I had a phone interview I would grab the cordless, sit on the carpet in my bedroom closet with the job description along with notes about the company and close the door. This way I’d ensure I had a quiet location that didn’t echo (bathrooms will do that) so I could concentrate on the discussion.

  2. Great idea, Grace!
