Why the Data Entry/Virtual Assistant Job You Want Doesn’t Exist

Wondering why you can’t find a simple data entry or virtual assistant job? More and more of these types of jobs are being outsourced to countries outside of the U.S. simply due to the fact that outsourcing to foreign countries cost a business or individual significantly less. As stated in a 2007 Business Week article, proponents of outsourcing low-skill service jobs, such as data entry or virtual assistants, argue that relocating to foreign shores is necessary to ensure the productivity and competitiveness of the U.S. economy; while opponents say American companies are betraying their own workers and destroying the middle class for the sake of the “almighty dollar.”

Amidst the situation, the home-based data entry field is plagued by scams - in fact this field represents one of the worst “scam ratios” to date simply because the demand for this type of work is high, and the projects not as plentiful. According to experts, “desperation breeds fraud.” Those who cannot afford to upgrade their professional skills through education, or who have been out of the workforce for quite some time, are subject to these types of scams given that data entry is one of the few fields available to them. The scammers are well aware that American data entry and virtual assistant professionals are steadily competing with low-cost labor abroad, which brings them out in full force.

Therefore, if a data entry or virtual assistant job is what you are on the hunt for - be well aware of scammers. Remember the golden rule to avoid getting scammed - never “pay” anyone to get the job of your dreams. Paying to go to school is one thing; paying to “get rich quick” or “land your dream job” is another.
