The Secret…

In the spirit of getting back into “Friday Reviews,” I decided to highlight a recent read of mine. Now, I’m not just jumping on the bandwagon here, but “The Secret” by Rhonda Byrne really opened up my eyes and helps me to refocus any negative energy/thoughts I have into positive ones. Both the book and the movie (my husband doesn’t like to read, so I rented the movie so we could watch together) have inspired both he and I to change even the simplest things in our lives that have the tendency to bog us down.

While the concept behind “The Secret” is not new - it is based on the law of attraction and how one’s positive thoughts are powerful magnets that attract what we all want - health, happiness, and let’s face it, wealth - it is nice to have a great collection of thoughts compiled into one book. I had to read the book a few times before my thoughts really started to take form into how I want to live my life each day. And of course, every day I make a conscious effort to stick with this way of thinking, as it’s so hard to slip and get back into my worrying, often pessimistic ways. If anything, this book reinforced my strong belief in the power of the human mind.

I bring up this book on this board because we are all hard workers on here, and with the right mindset, we can accomplish our dreams, no matter what they are. Call it cheesy, but who can truly deny that our minds direct where our lives take us? Granted, things happen beyond our control. But for the most part, we are in control of our lives. I’m not going to get too deep into the meaning of life (that’s not what this site is about), but I do want to encourage you to check out this book if you can. It’s worth reading, even if just for entertainment or to pique your curiosity. Check out “The Secret” today, and let me know what you think.

Those who have read it, what do you think? How has this book changed the way you live, if at all?

  1. Hey Karissa,

Although I haven’t read the “Secret” I did watch the movie and like you said many of the learnings are not new. It does definitely remind us of what we all already know, which we all too often forget. Since you did mention this book I would like to recommend another one, which I still use many of the learnings today. “The Celestine Prophecy” by James Redfield. It’s basically a book about life (although fiction) and helps you to become aware of what’s going on around you. It talks about 9 key insights, which I still very much use all of them today. I highly recommend this book and you’ll be amazed what you end up learning about yourself and others. I bought this book for many people and not one was disappointed and all thought the book was amazing. There are sequels to this book, but the 1st one I mentioned above is the one I recommend.

  2. Hi Kelley! Thank you for your comments and your book recommendation. I will definitely have to check it out - I have heard of it before!

  3. [...] It’s been a tough day. I’ll spare you the details, but let me just say it’s been a long, tiring, hectic day…and I’m still working. Mondays are definitely not my favorite. Not to mention, it poured rain out all day. Anyway, before I launch a pity party, I’ll use this time wisely and  try to stop the negativity already! (After all, it was me who recommended The Secret!)
