Tell Me What You Do…Or What You Want to Do

No joke - the first thought I had while getting out of bed this morning was asking you all today what it is you do for a living. Do you work from home? If so, what do you do? Lately with all of the different work from home job opportunities I’ve been describing in my posts, I am curious to hear the types of positions you hold that allow you to work from home. Do you own your own business? Do you telecommute for an employer? Do you have a full time job but also work from home for side money?

Or maybe you’re on this site because you’re still in the market for that perfect work from home job. Whatever the case, it would surely help to know the kinds of people I am “talking” to, and better yet, will help me to be able to tailor future posts more to your experience, your background, your goals.

So, if you can, take some time today to write to me what it is you do, if you love it, if you want change, etc. Feel free to write me one sentence, or a whole novel. Whatever it is you do, I want to hear all about it!

  1. I want to go to work and quit my job. When they ask me why, I want to be able to tell them it’s because I’m losing money by being there.

  2. Sabrina - Good for you! That is exactly what I did in December thanks to a contact I found through this site. I consider that day a major highlight in my life. I hope yours comes soon;)

Karissa, to answer your question. I work from home as a freelance writer. I have several contracts and I write all day - it’s the best. I also set up my own blog thanks to info from Steve. This site has definitely played a major role in my success.

  3. I wanna be like Casey! (bad like Mike joke) :)

  4. Sabrina,

I don’t know what your specialty is, but you might look into iFreelance.com. I get a lot of work through that site. You have to subscribe & register a portfolio - but it is VERY reasonable. I think I made back my 6 month subscription with the first job I got through them.

Note, this site is not just for writers. There are all sorts of gigs. You can check out my portfolio at
ifreelance.com/pro/30059 to give you an idea. Providers can rank their skills and they receive service feedback when the project is complete (like on eBay). That site & this site pretty much keep me employed FT.

  5. Thanks for the tip Casey!

  6. I work full time in the telecommunications industry. I currently test software, but I have many years experience in technical writing. I would like to increase my income by working part time from home.

Thank you for offering your profile to view.

  7. I work full time as the coffee buyer for a natural food store. I have a 16 month old son and my wife and I work opposite schedules so that our son is always with one of us. I am always looking for ways to free up more time for my family. I value and enjoy all the information your site provides. Thanks!

  8. Thanks for the feedback, all!

  9. Hi.
I work as a grant coordinator. It is a grant from the Dept. of Education and I help low-income families in a variety of areas as well as assist child care providers with professional development training. It is a rewarding job but doesn’t pay much. I also have 2 daughters, 10 and 11 who need me after school to help with homework, after-school activities, baking cookies, etc. I am searching for a work fom home job and check this site on a regular basis, hoping to find the perfect situation I could try. Unfortunately, I don’t feel I qualify for most of the job postings. But I keep looking and hoping.
