Staying “Up” in a “Down” Economy

As we all know, it’s very easy to succumb to negative thinking when all that seems to surround us is bad news. Inflation, high oil prices, crime rates, foreclosures, shall I keep going? No, because when we dwell on the bad stuff, the bad stuff sticks around! The best thing one can do for oneself, one’s family, one’s business, is to remain positive. Easier said than done, I know. I’ve dealt with a lot of stress lately in my life, and besides my faith, what gets me through it is the positive attitude I strive to have each and every day. We have a choice on how we handle life and adversity - we can give in or we can keep going…I came across a great quote today that read “Fall down seven times, stand up eight…”

Whether you are working from home for yourself, for a company, or in the market for a work at home job, take these tips into consideration as we plug on in 2008…

1.) Consider writing out all of your goals. Sound dumb? It’s not. Taking the time to write down all of your goals helps transmit them from mind to paper. Read the list of goals daily, as doing so will allow them to sink in and will give you more power to achieve them.

2.) Make wise choices about who you spend your time with. If you’re spending too much time with negative-minded people - think the constant complainers, the doomsayers, etc. - you’re putting yourself at risk to thinking this way as well. Find more positive-minded people to spend your time with, and associate your business with.

3.) Avoid constant exposure to newspapers, tv news, and Internet news. While it’s wise to be up to date on current events, exposing oneself to too much negative media makes you prone to fear, worry, and things you cannot control. Stay focused on the positive, what IS working right in the world, who IS making a great difference, what IS working for businesses, etc.

4.) Take time for yourself each day. For at least 30 minutes a day, retreat to a place where you can distance yourself from noise and distractions. At this time, visualize the completion of your goals and focus on the positive.

5.) Stay in touch with your current customers. Even if they are not buying at the moment, it’s always good to contact your customers on a regular basis. Remind them (in subtle, creative ways) that your relationship with them is important.

6). Invest in some good reading. There are TONS of books out there about staying positive, staying focused, and getting ahead in life using your mind and willpower.

Those are just some tips for tonight. I’ll perhaps continue this post throughout the week, as I have many more ideas to share - specifically ideas that deal with your job, business, etc.
