Staying “Up” in a “Down” Economy Part II
If you work for yourself and run a small home-based or other type of business, you are sure to benefit from these tips on how to protect your venture in the present economic state of our country/world:
1.) Don’t stall on the incentives. Are sales a tad slow? Start offering discounts to your customers, as well as additional services or special deals. Give your most valued customers EXTRA special deals - it’s a great way to strengthen relationships. While you are offering your service for a “bargain,” so to speak, this tactic could very well increase your sales.
2.) Increase, not decrease, your marketing. Instead of reducing your marketing budget, now is the most opportune time to increase your marketing and/or hold it steady. Marketing, as well know, leads to sales. Start researching creative, less costly ways to market your company using the web, phone, and/or other mediums.
3.) Keep consistent track of all revenues and expenses and consider hiring someone to do so. One of the most valuable things I ever did as a business owner was to hire my present bookkeeper/administrative assistant. MAN, is she wonderful! Not only does she save me loads of time to focus on running the business and getting projects done, but she is a whiz when it comes to accounting and all of the other financial and technical aspects of running a business.
4.) Keep an eye on and stay focused (and positive!) on the future. Know that economic cycles are a reality, and what goes down always has to come back up!
