Open for Feedback Today

Based on some new and valuable feedback I’ve received on this blog, Steve and I have decided to change things up a bit and target the blogs more to the work from home business professional, such as through offering ways to succeed in the industry, advertise on small budgets, network, etc. I’ve been waiting to hear from more of you on exactly what types of things you want to read about when you visit DailyTelecommuter.com, so I am glad I received this kind of feedback. It really helps to know what you are interested in reading about.

That being said, let’s make the focus of today’s blog on asking all of you what types of things you would like to read about going forward as you check the daily job postings. The purpose of this blog is to provide valuable information to you as you build on your telecommuting career. While most of the content posted on this has been largely of a personal, fun nature we will also now integrate information pertaining directly to the business of telecommuting. Information that will help you on your path to success as a telecommuting individual or a work from home business owner.

What I want to know from you is exactly the kind of information you would like reading about here. Such as what kind of challenges you face as a telecommuter, or a person who seeks to become a telecommuter? What types of things do you want researched and presented to you? What tools or information are you missing that is preventing you from becoming exactly who you want to be in this industry? Or maybe you do like to read the blogs just for fun as you check out the daily job listings. No matter what it is you prefer, tell me all about it!

I am listening to you, and it means a lot to be able to provide information that not only educates, but influences you. Thank you to everyone who reads this blog, and may it serve as a resourceful tool for you.

  1. How do you manage your taxes as a telecommuter?

  2. Great suggestion. Deductions. Taxes. Dealing with 1099s. All important questions. Thanks Katie.

  3. Some info on taxes would be GREAT!!! I am thinkin about this almost daily now.

In general the types of things I would like to see on this blog are information on ways to market yourself, information on tools that are helpful whether it’s free software or free seo tools. Something else that would be helpful is information on both free and paid advertising for our businesses.

I assume most people on this site are like myself and already work at home and we are looking for ways to build our business not deciding for the first time if we want to work at home. We are past that stage and on to the making our business better stage

Hope that was helpful. And it would be great if you can gather infomration for taxes and write about it. I am SO lost when it comes to this.

  4. Thanks Katie and Suzanne! Taxes is definitely a very important topic for those who work from home. I will definitely include significant information on taxes for you in upcoming blogs. Stay tuned!

    Keep more comments coming, all!

  5. Taxes are the evil spawn of Satan. Not to mention they go to bomb brown people who never attacked us, but I guess that’s the subject for another type of blog.

My main concern is how to get more paying customers. If I apply for all the animation jobs I can that you list here, I still don’t stay busy enough to make a full time living. So how do I find people who need flash and other types of animation? Do they have animation conventions? So yeah, advertising would be awesome.

  6. I hope you will continue to publish the list of telecommuting jobs, however. I just discovered your blog and i really like that list. I have applied for some jobs and gotten ideas for others. Thank you and keep up the good work.

  7. Don’t worry. The jobs will continue to be posted everyday. These aren’t affected.

  8. Here are some questions that I’ve pondered lately:
    * For those with no technical skills (programmer/web dev) skills, what is a “basic” type of work-at-home job that can be done successfully?
    * Is there a certain type of cover letter/resume format that employers seem to respond to — especially if someone is JUST wanting to start working from home?
    * How to market your business/services? Blogs? Mass emails? Local newspaper ads?
    * How much (as a percentage of total revenue) should you spend on marketing?
    * Do you sign up with temp agencies or any service like that to get contract work?
    * How do SEOs work in general?

    Thanks so much!

  9. Great ideas, Grace! Thank you!! We will for sure answer these questions for you in upcoming blogs!

  10. After seeing that the first bunch of comments all deal with taxes I would hope you would google Ron Paul and his stand on taxes and decide accordingly.
I would like to see making the transition from and office/company to being a Telecommuter. How much to take and still work the job, when to make the break if at all.

  11. [...] you all who left valuable feedback to my Friday post “Open for Feedback Today!” All of your tips were wonderful, and I will for sure put to use all of the feedback through [...]
