Making it as a freelance writer - choosing your niche
Love to write? Interested in turning your passion into a side job, or better yet, a full time one? If you’re a beginning writer, and considering taking the steps to go mainstream, here are some tips to help you along your way:
1.) Choose the type of writing that you want to do, and/or are best at. Fiction or non-fiction? Copywriting or creative writing? Business writing or kid-friendly writing?
2.) Figure out your specialty area. Do you know a lot about a specific subject area? Gardening? Health care? Parenting? Incorporate this into your writing career. Websites such as Helium.com and AssociatedContent.com could be a most perfect fit for you, enabling you to earn money based on the quantity and quality of the content you write.
3.) Study your market. Find out everything there is to know about succeeding in it.
With a specific market in mind, you will be able to know how to tailor your article, how long to make it, and how to approach the editor or business owner that you would like to pay you for your article(s).
Websites and writing magazines such as The Writer, Writer’s Digest and Byline will further your knowledge in the writer’s market, and help you gain the ground you need to succeed as a freelance writer.
I will post more tips and information for budding freelance writers this week. Stay tuned!
P.S. It’s a BOY! We found out today! I’m so happy, I will have a daughter and a son!
