Be Your Own Boss…With a Work from Home Business
According to a study recently conducted by the U.S. Small Business Administration, home-based companies now comprise 52 percent of all U.S. businesses. Additionally, a study by the National Survey of Entrepreneurial Parents pointed out that 22 percent of women alone who run a full-time business from home pull in $50,000 or more a year. Thirty-nine percent earn a figure of $30,000 or more.
Of all the advantages to starting a small business in your home, the biggest is perhaps that you will not require much overhead to get it started. Not needing a substantial initial investment to get going means that you are not taking much of a risk IF this business fails. Another advantage points to the fact that home-based businesses are regularly worked around a schedule that is most convenient for the business owner. It’s up to you to decide what schedule works best for you and your business.
Basically, if you are attempting to leverage your family and career as you run a home-based business, you will undoubtedly need to learn how to work in increments throughout the day. For example, if you have children, a typical scenario would be putting in two hours of work in the early morning before getting the kids off to school, work more throughout the day, and then take a break when the kids return. After dinner and bedtime, perhaps you will return to work. If you have little kids that are not yet in school, it is more challenging to work from home, but nonetheless (take it from me), it can be done. But it will require you to work sporadically throughout the day - and not a full 8 or 9 hours straight.
As you can see from the survey mentioned above, more and more Americans are taking their work home with them — starting their own profitable work from home businesses that allow them more personal time, more family time, and in a lot of cases, more financial freedom.
Stay tuned for Wednesday and Friday’s posts this week - I will explore the different types of work from home businesses that are sprouting all over the country, including pointing out those of which one should be leery. I will also point out some popular work from home myths!
