Back on track now…

Sorry it’s been a crazy week and my posts have been out of whack. Next week, they will resume normally! Anyhow, thank you all again for your best wishes for my baby #2! And I’m glad the list helped you out, too!

I wanted to throw out a quick list to you today on helping those of you who work from home to make your work day more smooth and productive. It’s so easy (especially now that spring weather is here) to fall off track, and be consumed by the hundreds of other things (besides work) going on in our lives.

1.) Stick to a consistent schedule. Wake up at the same time and abide by your typical morning routine. I know, it’s pretty cool to be able to sleep in when you work for yourself from home, but if you lull in bed for more than necessary, it makes room for procrastination.

2.) Choose your workspace wisely. Don’t park yourself in front of the tv, but rather dedicate a space in your home where you feel the most productive. Preferably, this will be a quiet, organized location.

3.) Don’t knock list-making. Putting together a list of goals for the day and crossing them off as you go will help you to accomplish the most important things before the mundane.

4.) Take time for lunch and much-needed breaks. Designate this time for all the personal stuff, like calls, errands, housework, etc.

5.) Take time for the children and pets. Working from home is tricky when you have kids and pets (take it from me with a toddler and two pugs), but if you plan your day wisely and work around the schedule that works best for you and the little ones and furry ones, you should be fine.

*A special thank you to CNN’s Special Telecommuting section for these tips.
Have a great weekend, all and I’ll “see” you next week!
