Back from the conference…

Well, my $55 for the cost of the registration to the CountMeIn.org’s “Make Mine a Million $ Business” conference was certainly well spent! My business partner and I had a lovely time (despite being tired from our few hours of sleep the night before - we decided to go to a 10:30 pm showing of the Sex and the City movie in Manhattan; and had to wake up for 5 a.m. the next day. Movie was great by the way!)

The conference was full of information, inspiration, great food, contests, and a bunch of freebies from sponsors. Some of our favorite speakers were Nely Galan (think Celebrity Apprentice), Simon O. Sinek, and the mayor for the City of Newark (New Jersey, where the conference was held), Cory A. Booker. My other favorite part were seeing more than 20 women pitch their businesses to the audience in the hopes of winning the Make Mine a Million $ Award. It was interesting to hear all of the different and amazing things my fellow women entrepreneurs are doing, and utmost inspiring to hear how easy it is to turn one’s business into a million-dollar a year enterprise.

My favorite part about the conference was the inspiration it instilled in both my business partner and I. As first time women business owners, we are often timid in our approach to running the business, and have even come short of believing in ourselves and our abilities from time to time when things get tough. But luckily the rewards of being in business supersede those challenges, and we persevere. Attending the conference, we gained a whole new respect for ourselves and what we do, as well as a new excitement for our business as it grows.

As Sinek and others pointed out in the conference, the number one important thing to do when running a business is to BELIEVE in every single thing you do, and incorporate your passion into your work. If you don’t stand behind your product or service 100%, who will?

Many speakers in the conference also pointed out the importance of involving your business heavily within the community. After all, your business is not (or should not) be in existence solely for you to make money; make a living, but rather to benefit your family and community as much as humanly possible. And, let’s face it, in the long run, feeling like you’ve made a difference in your family and community is worth far more than being able to take home a paycheck each month.

I have to run to pick up my daughter now - but if anyone has questions on CountMeIn.org, or the Make Mine a Million $ Business Conference, please do let me know!

P.S. Where the heck are all the restaurants in Newark, New Jersey?
