How Ridiculous is Too Ridiculous?

When it comes to online income, it seems, no claim is too crazy.

This post is not about stupidity in Internet users. It is about how stupid the slimy salesmen think you are.

I’m wondering lately, where is the line? You know. The Line. The one which, when you step over it, you know you are squarely in loon territory. You might know it right before you step over, or you might only recognize after the fact that you’ve crossed a line.

For example, some stranger comes to your door and says, “Sorry to bother you, but can you step outside for a minute and check out this weird flying object?” Ok, you think. Weird, but what the heck. I’ve always wanted to see a UFO. No line crossed.

Now another stranger comes to your door and says, “A spaceship is hovering right over your house! Come outside now and see!” Line crossed. You close and lock the door.

Where is that line in the world of online work-at-home scams? Does it even exist? If I put up a post saying

I made a million bucks with three clicks and not I’ll show you how for the incredibly low price of $100!!

do I still get people willing to see what I have to say? Or do they all close and lock the door?

I think these cross the line

I think these two programs cross that smelly line. The one where you look at it and go, “Whoa. There be loons .”

The first hall of shamer: Postcardprofits.com, which claims: “I Made $52,923 In 5 Days – PostCardProfits.com?Earn_Money – Mailing Cheap Little Postcards. It’s Simple…I’ll Show You How!”

You made more than $10k per day and you’re trying to make more by selling some information? YOU’RE A LOON!

And then there’s Cashmails.org, which offers a $1,000 signing bonus to sign up to be spammed read emails.

Riiight. I guaran-damn-tee you that bonus is so buried in fine print and impossible conditions that they’ll never have to pay out.

(Reviewers: Anyone interested in looking into these two more closely? Shoot me an email: joe[at]ivetriedthat[dot]com.

Please tell me there’s a line!

I have to believe it if I am to keep my faith in humanity. What is the line for you? What claim is so ridiculous on its face that you know the one who speaks it is full of it?
