Beware of Google Treasure Chest.

This is just a quick post warning you guys to stay far away from Google Treasure Chest. They are operating the same deceitful acts as Google Money Tree. Their presell page claims to send you a packet of information on how to make money online for just $3.88. The deceit lies within the terms and conditions.

If you sign up for their program, you’ll automatically be enrolled in their “membership program.” I don’t exactly know what this entails, but I do know that if you don’t call and cancel the membership you didn’t sign up for, you’ll be charged $72.21 in just seven days. You’ll continue to be charged the same amount each month until you manually call in and cancel your fake membership. Again, there is no mention of this within their sales pitch. You have to dig through their terms and conditions in order to find this lovely bit of information.

Another interesting note is that this program is in no way endorsed by Google. I’m actually astonished that Google hasn’t issued a cease and desist for attaching their name to these programs. It’s just a matter of time I suppose.

You can read more about this in our Google Money Tree post.

Are there more companies peddling these same tricks? Let us know in the comments below.

    1. I get a ton of their spam in my gmail account. It automatically gets filtered there, but I was also wondering why Google hasn’t done anything to stop them.

    2. Andrew Turner says:

I just got billed and want my goddamn money back

    3. Looks like i got stung, to my supprise i checked out my visa bill and was charged the 3.88 also the 72.21, i phoned them right away and canceled, I also would like my money back but they told me that is not possable, I sure hope Google will do something about it as it is giving them a VERY BAD reputation

    4. I too have been stung, the took $72.21 out of my account, I called and canceled, even though I didn’t sign up for any membership and they basically said too bad. I can’t get my money back. Google needs to get on board and do something, it’s not good business and bad for your reputation

    5. I called the number and got a cancellation confirmation number. They still charged my credit card the $72.21. I had to cancel my credit card account because the crooks obviously don’t honor their own policies.

    6. I got the slam too. what a dirty little trick. I found the right place to let Google know about this evil use of their trademark.

Go here and report the trademark infringement

      http://www.google.com/support/websearch/bin/request.py?contact_type=g_trademark&ctx=contactpolicy

    7. I had no idea I would be charged $72.21, and I was. Does anyone have the number to call to cancel??

    8. yes , just look on your visa bill it will have a phone # for this garbage place

    9. I wrote a check, so I don’t have the number…does anyone have it???

    10. here is the phone # for that @&#%$#@#@$#^%&*#^$%#%%^$% place
      1-888-705 1275
P.S. has anyone received the kit yet?
      Melba

    11. That number no longer works. I just checked my account today and noticed the 72.21 came out.Have not recieved kit yet and I’m guessing I probably never will.

    12. I have been checking my Visa account every day to make sure no other withdrawel’s made

    13. I have a question regarding Google Money Tree. I understand that the $70 monthly fee is a scam because they don’t tell you about it upfront. But if I choose to pay $70 a month to use their system, is it possible to make my money baack? What I’m getting at is, I would gladly pay $70 a month if I can use it to make $3,000 a month. Is that possible?

      Kelli

    14. I’m not even going to go there!!!!
But that is up to you, good luck

    15. ok. But I’ve never seen the program. For all I know it works, but no one’s tried it. I’m looking for feedback from someone who has tried the program…

    16. Kelli, we considered trying it. But when we realized they hide their real intent in the fine print and are buttheads about refunding money to complaining customers, we decided not to get mixed up with them. If someone’s going to be dishonest with these kinds of gimmicks, I’m sure not going to give them my credit card info. If they had a legitimate product that worked, they wouldn’t have to hide behind their terms and conditions.

    17. I can deffinatly understand that- I’m desperate. I’m going to wait until I hear some feedback from a brave(maybe sorry)soul that has tried it. I would never give them my money without actually getting feedback from someone who tried it.

    18. As far as i understand, NO one has received their Kit…includeing me

    19. Wow. Then I guess I’ll be moving along! I called and cancelled it 5 minutes after I ordered it. Customer service told me they would send it anyway, but gave ma a cancellation number. I will be watching my account anyway! Thank you for your help!

    20. I was just scammed. What predators. I am going to contact the newspapers and tv stations in my city to get the word out to people. I don’t want others to be scammed like me. I can’t believe they haven’t been stopped.

    21. I used a commerce gift card with 9$ on it to sign up for that lol, whats going to happen after 7 days if i don’t cancel it?

    22. You all got scammed by your own damn stupidity. Read the terms and conditions and you will find it in black and white. You authorized them to deduct the fee and monthly charges. Don’t blame others for your stupidity.
      jt

    23. It’s a common “scam”… though not technically a scam at all. I don’t recommend this, from reading between the lines it seems to be something that shows you how to profit from Google Adwords or perhaps Adsense. Search the web – you’ll find all the information for free. Warning: Adsense (where you profit from ads on your site) takes a lot of traffic. Adwords (where you place those ads)takes a lot of research and testing and can eat through your budget in no time. Make sure you know what you’re doing.

Remember, whenever you buy a system you’re really paying for the convenience of having all the information presented to you in one go. In nearly all courses, systems, plans etc I’ve seen you can find the info for free, if you look. Try the many blogs and forums for advice if you need it.

And as for the subscription fee plans read the small print. If there’s another payment method use that so they can’t automatically rebill your card. If it’s payable by PayPal go for that – cancelling a subscription takes just a click.

    24. Well TY so much for that JT, which goes to show we are not all as
      SMART AS YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!
      M

    25. The warnings are disclosed on their website in plain view right at the bottom of the page. The first two links you go to where there is a clock counting down 5 minutes (done to deter you from reading the entire page and only noticing the large bring blinking lights). At the bottom of those pages is the disclosure that you WILL be charge $72.71 after 7 days even without signing up for the website. You can call and cancel but must do so 3 days prior to when any payment is to be taken out automatically. There is a 30 day unconditional money back guarantee for all costs, including the $1.97 shipping cost. You will need to get a return tracking number, ship the package back to one of their “warehouses,” and require a receipt upon delivery to ensure they accept the package. It’s all right there on the website. I was about to pull the trigger and sign up, but I took a few extra seconds to look it over and noticed it all disclosed there. Best of luck to everyone that got scammed. Go to the link at the bottom of the page that says “Terms and Conditions” and read there a little and you’ll find the 30 day money back guarantee info.

    26. Good to read these comments. I just got an email and read the sales letter…was about to click on the payment link but then scrolled to the bottom of the page and read the fine print…Always good to read the ‘fine’ print where it tells you about the charges that will be made.

I then decided to do some research just to see what others are saying and as I suspected this setup appears to be bogus! I am been doing business online for over 3 yrs and I have certainly had my fill of those types of offers to the tune of many thousands of dollars. I like to think that I am much smarter now and you are if you are seeking information before you purchase.

    27. Hello! I was lucky not to be taken. I saw an advertisement for this on one of my websites that i go to daily. I am writing to them now to tell them about the scam and hopefully they will take it off the air ways (from their site anyway) I did read the fine print before i put in my info. I even gave an old phone number on the first page because i knew the phone would start ringing immediatly. I am sorry all you guys got ripped off. It does say in the fine print that they will NOT refund your money for any reason. I hope Google does something about this so that other’s aren’t scammed.

    28. Hi
I’m living in the UK and just signed up for it. The number on their website is 866.951.1406,
How do i call this number from the UK?

      Is there a prefix?
      Please reply ASAP

    29. I did check the BBB re: Google, so when I saw a B- for the rating I thought, “OK, not horrible”…and I even read the Terms and Conditions….Google seems to have a good reputation…went ahead and signed up at $1.97 for the kit…went back to BBB cause after I signed up, I see the name googletreasurechest…(which was NOT on the screen when you sign up)..googled THAT on BBB and it turns out they have a big fat F-…I immediately came here, started reading, got approx 3/4 the way down and called them to cancel…be forewarned!!!!! When you call to cx…make sure you tell them that the other subscriptions that you ‘unlocked’ by signing up will have another number to call…don’t think you can get rid of this with one #..by calling 1-866-951-1406 you can cx googletreasurechest AND “FraudSafeLockID”…”GrantSpring” has another number alltogether…1-888-247-2155…since I had just signed up within minutes of cancelling, they did not have me in the system yet so I need to call back in a couple of days to make sure it gets cx’d!! What a pain! My fault for not investigating more thoroughly. Good luck!

    31. Lehann –

I have a question. I’m not sure what you mean by “unlock” that you indicate.

I just signed up for Google ATM Home Business Kit. I read the fine print after signing up (stupid me) and called to cancel my subscription. The Phone number listed in the Terms was 800-497-4988. They said that they were not part of that and gave me a different phone number: 866-951-1406. I called them and had my subscription cancelled and got a cancellation number.

In your response you said the following: “When you call to cx…make sure you tell them that the other subscriptions that you ‘unlocked’ by signing up will have another number to call… 1-866-951-1406 you can cx googletreasurechest AND “FraudSafeLockID”…”GrantSpring” has another number …1-888-247-2155″.

I called the GrangSpring phone number (1-888-247-2155) and they do not have a record of me. I called the original number again (800-497-4988) and they don’t have a record of me.

I called the phone number where I got the cancellation number from (866-951-1406) but they were already closed for the day. Do I need to call them back and make sure they cancel all of my subscriptions? I’m not sure what you mean by “unlock”.

    32. ShaunAuseer says:

Thanks Steve. I just came across this scam…I was just about to join the list of fools. ThanX!

    33. A couple of things. Google can’t do anything. Google does not own the word google. google can be used by anyone…because Google is known as a famous search engine, there will be people capitalising on the term.

A hint, don’t give your personal info, credit/debit info to anyone on the net telling you that you can make x amount of money by working at home, but first you need to pay x amount them. Just as obvious as the Nigerian prince email phishing scam.

    34. Oh also,

There was an ad on myspace.com to nathansmoneyblog.com promoting google treasure chest. I wonder if there’s a way to complain to the folks at myspace about it and have them remove the ad.

    35. Kelli from above, I know you are desperate, me too. but my educated guess is that they tell you to peddle their silly system in a sort of pyramid scheme. If you decide to do it, you will get other people in money trouble like us.

    36. As Demian’s post

I’m also in the UK. Ive stopped by bank account around 1 hour after signing up. Anyone know how we can contact them from the UK? Ive tried emailing them but this is coming up as invalid as well. Are they total cowboys??

    37. Hi Lee, the only phone# i have is 1-888-705-1275, cancelled mine
but they still took the money out of my account, be very carefull or they will take that amount each month
      hope this helps you

    38. Melba

Thanks for the reply, are you in the UK as well, is that the number you used?

    39. I am also living in UK.
I also did this stupid thing today,I’ve paid with my visa debit card.
Does the anyone know can they still collect the payments if I will cancel the debit card?
Do they need the card number for the next time?
      Any ideas?

    40. Hi Lee, I live in Canada, make sure you phone that #
      all the best to you

    41. Lee, you will probably need to use a country code when dialing a US number from the UK. I have a buddy in London & we both need a country code to call each other. I dont know the code you need but you can do a quick search for country codes and you will find it. Good luck.

**I am so glad I read the terms before clicking submit! I was soooo close to falling for it just like the rest of you – but I AM a complete dumbass for giving them my real phone # and email address! Hopefully they just leave me alone because I didnt actually sign up for their scam….fingers crossed.

    42. For all the UK users,

I cancelled mine a moment ago. If you dial 0844 759 9510. This is a online company who charge you 1p per minute to call the usa from any BT landline. Listen to the short message and then dial 001-888-705-1275. 001 is the international code. The operator will go through two security questions with you and then provide you with a cancellation number.

      Hope this helps
I’ll try not to be so easily convinced next time!!

    43. Hi Guys, I signed up for this about a week ago aswell. And then i came across a site that claimed that it was a scam and kicked myself for it. Called them asks them a s**t load of questions and I must say they were quite helpful, said that I can start on it if i want to even if i didnt get the CD within 7 days by logging on with the info they sent me in my e-mail. ( thats the username and password i got after i sined up) and if i’m not happy within 7 days, that i could even call on the 7th day and cancell. Which i did the second day before i even tried it cuz i was a chicken. I havent got billed for anything yet, im keeping my fingers crossed but its been about 2 weeks now. Anyway I did get the CD within 5-6 days. I wasnt expecting it since everyone said they had’nt got thiers. I havent checked it out yet, but am very anxious to see what its all about. Anywayz, i had Kelli’s mentality and thought hey, if I could make a couple thousand a month and they take 72.22/mo..it wouldnt really matter…BUT i think im gonna pass up on this one. If I feel adventurous and give it a try..I’ll be the guinny pig :P and let you guys know how it goes.Atlast the onse who got the CD….if you didnt get a CD then i guess thats something to be worried about.I’m wondering if there are some sites out there claiming to be the same company and scamming people..could that be a possibility?? anyway..Take care ..i’ll keep in touch..and let me know what ya think.

    44. I was taken by this scam as well. Didn’t know it till I went to the bank and they told me i was in the hole. I called the 800#. (1-866-951-1406) The customer rep I talked to was very nice and happily gave me a refund for the $72.21. Just a heads up though the 800# is not the actual company it is a collection company that works for “Google Treasure Chest”. So don’t start the conversation on a bad note. They know they work for a company that’s a scam and they are happy to help you get your money back. They get paid even if “Treasure Chest” don’t get your money. Good luck everyone!!!

    45. I was taken by this scam aswell…Did anyone else get called by PMI for coaching? I was taken by the scam aswell and got charged for 199 to my credit card, and ended up signing a contract with them for financing for $3k

    46. $3k, Tony? Ouch, that bites.

    47. I really feel bad for all of you, honestly because its a shame they dont tell you straight out you have to pay $70 a month. BUT, havent you guys ever heard of “reading the small print”? ALWAYS read the small print. take that extra 5 minutes to go over every detail. I havent read of one person who has had any success. Not because its a scam, but because everyone has cancelled it themselves from feeling so damn stupid. And most of you guys are saying you cancelled your accts 5 minutes after you signed up! Let this just be a lesson to all of you. Hope everything works out of for everyone who is upset with google F&$@ chest

    48. Like several — I saw there ad only to be caught in their underhanded scam.

Yes I rec’d a call which was their 2nd attempt to further steal money. ?s like how much is available on your credit card to pay tuition for the coach in learning how to set up a web based business. Needless to say I declined when I asked well tuition for what and how long? Answer: It could be 6-12 months, and cost a couple of thousand to ten thousand.

My response how is this making me money.

Any way I returned the garbage per their instructions and like others I never played the piece of trash they sent me, my position this probably had hidden codes and/or viruses. no thank you.

As of today 4/14/09 I just spoke with Angie @ 866-957-0020. Who advised they just rec’d the return and it takes 7-10 days to see the return. I stated so by the 24th this should be corrected. Angie no it takes 7-10 business days. I stated so it takes business days to refund, but not business days to charge. To this Angie stated “unfortunately that’s right”. I stated yeah the old switch-a-roo.

I saw their add and answered the page 3/27. My visa was charged 4/3. I called 4/6 which would have been the 10th day according to their contract (which is food for the Attorney General to shut these crooks down, and the BBB to blast via every media medium when this kind of fraud is first detected) before 100s are affected. Straight out FRAUD nothing else

    49. hey signed up for this crap last week i got charged the dollar something then the 70 yesterday bull shit,,,,i dont care what people say when i signed up their was no fukin small print honest,,,nothing said i would have to pay 70 bucks for this shit i read everything,,,i called today and they gave me a confirmation number for my refund and said it would be 3-5 days to be refunded back on my card,,,hmmmmm i hope so or im gonna travel to utah and rip off this guys balls who started this shit

    50. A pop up for Google Tresure chest came up while I was online. I saw teh blinking light with the timer, but figured if I went to the previous screen and re-clicked the pop up, it would start over. The only thing I saw at the bottom of the page in the fine print was that Google Treasure Chest was in no way affiliated with Google. I paid the $1.97, never recieved the DVD in the mail (I was under the impression the 7 days started when you signed for the package). I called the “For Refunds Call 866-957-0020,” which is what the company is listed as on my bank statement. I called and was told my money would be refunded within 3-5 business days. The rep kept referring to it as “This product,” as if he didn’t even know what it was. I’m not even sure I know what it is. It clearly stated in the pop up that you could get the Google kit WITHOUT paying for it, just pay $1.97 shipping! I’ve done other network marketing businesses and have no issue with paying a fee to learn a trade or become a licensed professional, but I received no merchandise and informed the rep of this! I asked if they had a tracking number so I could find it in the mail and get my shipping cost back purely on principle. The rep said there was no way to know where it was, as they ship through the post office!

    51. My name is Tim I think we shouldn’t get in voled I gave no account no.I am desperate but don’t need more trouble than what I am in now if this really work they wouldn’t need that information. Until later win you start making money. By the way dose any body know of anybody that has made money with these system, besides the same four that work for same pipe co . has same Land rover, showing the same checks.

    52. Well, it looked like a good deal to me. I even read the Terms as well. So I knew supposedly what I am getting into. I even printed the terms and agreements out as well. So then I get this call 4 hours later and this guy is “interviewing” me for a chance to have Coaches help you make more money. And wants to get my husband in on it. They talk a pretty big game finding out how In debt you are, and what are your goals to fix this problem. So I bite the bait and continue with the interview (all along they still won’t tell me what I would be doing) So then I have to go through a 2nd interview with a “corporate guy” to see if we qualify for this coaching opportunity. And as I set up the 2nd interview He tells me that there is an investment between 4k-15k. That we would put on the credit card and be able to pay it back quickly. So that sprung a HUGE red flag as I am very frugal with my credit cards. So I came to research this so call business on the Internet. I stumbled across this article. And decided that I won’t get sucked into this further from the Comment about the person that signed a contract to invest 3k with them. I cancel the credit card that they had and sent them an email to cancel the account. (I never received the CD or my account ID or password.)

DON’T fall for the “Coaching” scam either. Thank you all for your insightful comments before I got into major financial debt.

    53. I can’t believe this! They have taken $72.21 out of my credit card account I never authorized that! Are they planning on taking this out every month? For What? I have a stupid CD there is no business of any kind and no product. How can they take $72.21 out of my account every month? I need to stop that now. It is Saturday. I didn’t even pay attention to this $1.97 deal until today. I ordered it March 30th. They took the money out April 9th. I believe it is the law that there has to be a 30 day money back guaranty on any kind of mail order or internet direct sales. I will call them Monday and I would like to send some very nasty people to their office. But the odds are they do not have an office. Thanks to Sharon for her response here. I hope I get the same result.

    54. IF you will read the terms again you fin out they will prosecute you if you don’t separate from them right. you don’t even have to have a bank account.

    55. To Tim: Are you kidding? You sound like you have been put up to answer by them. By the way you mispelled “find.” Here is the deal: I will call them Monday. I will cancel. I will do whatever I have to stop them from taking more money from my account. They couldn’t prosecute anybody. They are the ones who are criminals here. If they took anyone to court they would be slammed by a decent legal system in a short time. They have a legal contract they think. Except they have sent nothing in return for the consideration they have recieved. Unless they can prove they have sold an actual product, they are in violation of the Uniform Commercial Code. So bring them on!

    56. Tim,
Ty for that i paid 72.21 us and also 1.97 and as soon as i seen that it was taken out of my credit card, i phoned them to cancel & also asked for my money back they told me i could not get my money back but would cancel my account, I never did receive the hardware or cd
Please beware, how could i have been sooooo stupid!!!!!!!!!!

    57. To Bob sorry about what I said. I lost my job of 21 years was looking for something. I really think you know what your talking about. Gods blessings.

    58. These people need a good ass whipping. Who knows where we can find them ?

    59. I just called them three times today. It is during business hours. A message came on and said to call them back during business hours! I will be happy if they just stop taking money out of my account! I sent them an email and got no response. What a company!

    60. 4/11/2009 DEBITCARD:PURCHASE 866 957 0020 UT 04/09/09 FOR REFUNDS CALL86 ($72.21) $486.36
      4/1/2009 DEBITCARD:PURCHASE 866 957 0020 UT 03/30/09 FOR REFUNDS CALL86 ($1.97) $98.34
Okay, this is the 3rd F**** I am typing this. Now I’m full of rage and I’m going to lay it out like it is. Google authorized $ 72.21 doll

    61. 4/11/2009 DEBITCARD:PURCHASE 866 957 0020 UT 04/09/09 FOR REFUNDS CALL86 ($72.21) $486.36

      4/1/2009 DEBITCARD:PURCHASE 866 957 0020 UT 03/30/09 FOR REFUNDS CALL86 ($1.97) $398.34

Okay, this is the 3rd F**** I am typing this. Now I’m full of rage and I’m going to lay it out like it is. Google took $ 72.21 dollars on my account 10 days after i purchase that stupid kit online. I just wanted to know what it was all about, from being tired of looking at it from facebook to myspace. On top of that, Google sign me up for some website that will deduct $ 36.77 dollars after the free trial. Ok! What free trial? I don’t recall doing any of that. Im a college student, and money is very valuable to me even if i only have about $ 400. I WANT MY $ 72.21 BACK. That is some BS, if they don’t since i told them straight i want my money back, 9 days ago, and the girl said i will. Somebody Lawsuit google, so we can all have out money back. Money that i need to keep me alive. F**** Google.

    62. Hi, i live in the uk and i too fell for this scam! they took a joining fee of 1.37 from my account today but not the $70 yet. I have contacted my bank and they have cancelled my card and issued me with a new card number, do u know if this is enough to stop them taking money?
Iv tried ringning the american number but the lines are always closed and costing my phone bill loadsss!!!

    63. To Emma and Ezekiel, call this number 866-951-1406. When I called my credit card company they gave me that number to call. Apparently there are a large number of complaints at my credit card company. The person who answered was Ashley and she said she would stop the withdrawals from my account and refund my money within 3-5 days. I will soon find out if the truth was told.

    64. Sharon on Apr 8th, 2009 at 4:39 pm

Sharon did you actually receive your money or just get a promise it would be given back?

    65. Go to http://www.complaintsboard.com/?search=google+treasure+chest and http://www.googletreasurechest.com
You will see enough information to open your eyes and wonder why this scam has not been stopped.
The initial “bait” (in my case, an informative work at home CD) is to gain your credit card information. After they have this they will start charging your account whether or not you do or buy anything further. It seems most people do not discover this until after they have had several withdrawals by their credit card. In my case I thought I was just doing a simple $1.97 transaction for an informative Cd about “Work at Home”. Nothing in the ad said anything about anything more than the purchase of a Cd. After I Paid for the Cd with debit card I was waiting for the usual paid invoice about the purchase but instead I was directed to
a website with a message about “enjoy looking around this site while I was waiting for my Cd.” I was puzzled about why I was sent to the site but thought it was just further helpful information about work at home. I was asked to choose a password and since a lot of sites ask you to register for a password I did not think too much about this. I could see by the junk ads on the site that it was nothing more that what is found all over the internet. A few days later the Cd arrived.
Then 7 days later “Whamo” I checked my bank statement and found an unauthorized $72.21 withdrawal on my debit card. I have since researched Google Treasure Chest and Google money tree on the internet and found page after page of complaints about this practice. I finally found their terms and conditions in tiny print on the bottom link of the Google Treasure Chest website. It’s a lot of gobblety gook about how they can charge your credit card for services at their discretion and that you will be charged 72.21 monthly. This information should have been made available on the site where I bought the Work at home Cd and also on the front page of the website that I was sent to.. This type of information is supposed to be up front so you can make an informed decision. A contract like this would not stand up in court as there is no meeting of the minds. The reason that these type of people can get away with these practices is that it is so time consuming and expensive to try to correct it and most people just won‘t go to that trouble. . These crooks do not have a viable product or service to offer and are preying on the public with the established “Google” name.

They have a 30 day refund guarantee phrase in their terms requiring you to call a certain number to cancel subscription and require you send the cd back with a RGA number in order to get your money back. I had to call the number a dozen times trying to get an answer. Each time I was connected I either got someone mumbling about what days and hours they were open., or I got another voice that is suddenly cut off with an ominous click. I am sure that most people would have given up by this time. I kept trying the number and finally reached a person who said her name was “Rachel”. When I asked for her full name she informed me that she could not give out that information. I replied “I just bet not” and she replied “it would be stupid”. Then she turns around and says she can give me an id number for her and gave me a number. I told her I was calling to get my money refunded and that I needed their RGA number to send their #&88 cd back and if I did not get the money back that they took without my authorization that all hell was going to break out.
At this point she says “do you want me to cancel your subscription so you won’t be charged anything further?” By this time I am hot under the collar. Informing her that “yes” I most certainly did and that they would not be able to charge my debit card any further as I have canceled it and notified my bank not to honor any further charges from them to the debit card or my bank account, and furthermore I intended to file a fraud claim against them with my bank if my money was not refunded immediately. She told me she would have to go into my account to see if they could refund my money—I was put on hold– finally she returned and said that they would refund my money and that it would take 5 to 7 days. She then gave me a great big long number which she said was to prove that I had canceled the subscription in time and that I would not be required to return the Cd. I am really skeptical about the money ever showing up. I have checked the password google treasure chest site and I can still access it.

I would advise you to let all your friends know about these unethical people and their practices and to steer clear of them.
incidentally I never tried the cd for fear of virus or other malware.
If I receive my money back I will let you know. If I don’t I am going to notify every law organization I can think of to try and put a stop to this unethical business practice.
      I was so gullible.

    66. Bob is this true. I am pissed that i fell for this.. who should i ask for to get my money back?

    67. Adam, I’m not Bob but if your 30 days are not up and you have already been charged the membership subscription fee (this varies from $30 up to $70) you need to call the number given on your credit card statement. It has the number listed FOR REFUNDS. If you don’t have a statement I would call your credit card company or bank and notify them about your concern. If you are wanting to cancel before you are charged then you need to go back to the googletreasurechest site http://googletreasurechest.com and get the number from the section they have on “about us”. I had two numbers to try to get in touch with them with. 866-957-0020 for refund and 866-951-1406 supposedly their support. Don’t give up calling Good luck

    68. I too was scammed!! I hate when that happens. You would think with the economy in the shape that it is in and people in the financial strain that we are in that they would have a little more compassion for us and would not mislead us. As with some of the other comments, it was not on the first page or even the page where you give your life history. That should have sent up the first red flag, but I am in need of some monthly income so I tend to overlook things. I did call the numbers that are in some of these posts. They claim that I have been canceled and gave me a confirmation #. They also told me that I would receive a refund in 7-10 days. Well I called back to make sure that I had been cancelled and the lady that I spoke with this time told me that it had been cancelled and that I would receive a refund of $72.21 in 3-5 days. First of all they need to get their stories together. Second of all I should have been smarter than that. And Third, they need to be in court and have to give every dollar back that they have taken from people. Enough already. With three kids I have enough to worry about without having to worry about someone scamming me!!! Do they not have a conscience?

    69. hey,do they also charge this 72 dollars???,without signing up on their homepage?i just ordered the kit,but didnt sign up on the homepage, because i found this site!

    70. Hi Rolend

As long as you didn’t give them your credit card #
then you should be ok, all of us haved been scammed & i have yet to receive my cd

      Melba

    71. it is 2 weeks now and i still didn’t get my money yet. I’m calling back 2mro.

    72. hi
yes,i gave them my credit card,to ship the kit,
but i didnt sign up on the homepage, after i got their email with password…
should i still call them to make sure?

    73. When you gave them the credit card #, you signed up for whatever they wanted to charge you. My bank told me to cancel everything including my bank account. Or they will keep on getting your money.

    74. Hi everyone! I, too got scammed by “joshmadecash.com”! On Saturday, the 25th, I purchased what I thought was a free DVD, to only pay the $1.97 S/H. And when I didn’t receive any confirmation e-mail, I googled and researched and found that this is indeed a scam. I am usually pretty good about not falling for these types of things, but like most people on here, it was only a $1.97. . . well, I immediately went to my bank this morning (Monday) and cancelled my visa check card. She told me that there was nothing wrong with doing so and they could not come back at me for the funds since it can be proven that they are a scam. Anyway, I came home and called the 866-951-1406 number and actually talked to a rep named Britany (I got her ID number also) who cancelled my subscription. She did give me a confirmation number as well. Do this even though you cancel your credit card because then you can prove that you cancelled your subscription, therefore assuring that they will not come after you. I hope this helps. I’ll never fall for this trap again.

    75. me too! i just saw a charge for $72.21 on my bank account. called bank and there is NO company name associated with the charge. also is a $1.97 fee from same. called this #: 866 957 0020. there is no, “hi thanks for calling xyz co” only a recording that the next avail agent will be with you shortly. Got a guy on phone after about 5 mins; asked him what co this was and he said “this is a 3rd party cust svc co, so you could be calling about any # of co’s.” with my last name and zip code he claimed to “pull up my account.” I told him I didn’t know what this was, or who from. he said “google treasure chest.” i asked about the $1.97 and he told me it’s a shipping and handling fee. he said he’d refund the $72.21, but without a police report claiming the $1.97 was fraud, he couldn’t refund that!

    76. Hi again everyone! Just a follow-up with my other comment. A couple of people on here made note of it too – not only do you have to cancel with GoogleTreasureChest, but you have to cancel the other two trial subscriptions. The FraudSafeLockID is cancelled with GoogleTreasureChest, but make sure you call 866-951-1406 to make sure. Then call 888-247-2155 to cancel the GrantSpring subscription. I know, I know, what a pain in the a#@ this has become! Good luck to you all. . .

    77. Not Kevin says:

Good news which I discovered thanks to a post by ‘Deano’ on scam.com – looks like the long arm of the law may finally be catching up with these scammers!

“Attorney General Abbott Charges Web Site Operator with Orchestrating Fraudulent Work-at-Home Scheme

Infusion Media Inc.’s ‘GoogleMoneyTree’ uses high profile name to deceive out-of-work Internet users

AUSTIN – Attorney General Greg Abbott today charged two Utah-based defendants with operating a fraudulent work-at-home scheme. The state’s enforcement action names Infusion Media Inc. and Jonathan D. Eborn, whose “GoogleMoneyTree.com” promised six-figure earnings for conducting specialized Google and Yahoo Internet searches.

According to investigators, the defendants promised big payouts in order to convince Web users to spend $3.88 on shipping and handling for a “free kit” that supposedly would show them how to make money from home. Those who purchased the kit were later surprised to discover they were being charged $72 a month by the defendants.”

      Full press release here:
      http://www.oag.state.tx.us/oagNews/release.php?print=1&id=2940

They are encouraging other victims of this scam to “file complaints with the Office of the Attorney General toll-free at (800) 252-8011 or file complaints online at http://www.texasattorneygeneral.gov.”

More info and research on this scam can be found here: http://strangelyperfect.tv/3099/google-treasure-chest-its-a-scam-and-a-half/

    78. Just to let you all know. They have refunded my money today. It is in the bank. Does not help the fact that I am still $110 in a hole thanks to the fact that they took it out in the first place. I can’t stand people who take money from those of us who are crazy enough to give it to them. Not sure what I was thinking. Mom always said “If it sounds to good to be true, chances are it is.” One of these days I will learn to listen to her.

    79. Ok so i signed up for this, didn’t see anything about me getting charged so i went ahead with the order, I never received a confirmation or any software and called and canceled the next morning. I was told that the transaction never went through and i would not be charged anything as i never received a confirmation email, low and behold i get a phone call from someone trying to get me to put more money into this program fore personal mentoring. Obviously the transaction was not canceled. And because it was more than 7 days i was charged the $72! ARGHH!! I was told i would not be charged anything! So beware of this scam now, they are pretending to not have received the order, then they go ahead and send the charge through! This is an absolute lie to me and whats worse as a consumer there is nothing i could do as i never received a confirmation number of my purchase ever!

Just beware of this one make sure you call and follow up with them that your account is in fact canceled. I had to phone a few times to get a cancellation number.

    80. Jozy, on your credit card statement, what is the name of the company that made the charge? The Texas Attorney General has filed charges against googlemoneytree.com, which pulls the same kind of stunt.

    81. Wow, thanks to “Not Kevin” and Peggy for their thorough discussion on these criminals. I haven’t got my money back yet. It seems that 3-5 business days means I should get a credit on the 28th at the latest. I doubt it will happen. I did get a cancellation # from them. This is amazing! So many good people being ripped off by crooks! I hope they get sent to prison. I think Google should stop them from advertising on any of their sites. To the attorney in Texas, he should also file a cease and desist order on Google to stop them from allowing any further damage by Google Treasure Chest to inernet users.

    82. I have the same EXACT story as the rest! I’ve been reading these complaints for an hour now and somehow feel better that I’m not the only one. I will check the above link and file a complaint if possible. I hope everyone else will do the same. “Power in numbers”… hopefully.

    83. me too been scamed paid for trial never got one, have been charged £50.55 out of bank but havent recieved anything have just got through to customer services whom say they will refund my money within 10 business working days and have cancelled all future membership. will just have to wait and see if it goes back into account

    84. I to was scammed by this website. I filed a complaint with Better Business Bureau. Go to http://www.bbb.org my case # for this complaint is: #22073579. The more people that file a complaint the more likely it is that this scam will be stopped and shut down. I feel lucky as some people where charged for many months before they realized it. If my complaint stops one person from being ripped off from this SCAM then it was worth the time I spent filing the claim, which by the way took less than 30 min. and I was able to do it online. Hope this comment helps others….

    85. I signed up for this last night, realised it was probably a scam seconds later! I contacted my bank this morning and cancelled my debit card, but was told that although they will issue me with a new card they may still be able to take the cash from my account.
I have called the cancellation number and was told my account(s) have been cancelled, two accounts? Anyway have been given a 2 cancellation numbers and shall now be watching my bank account very carefully.
By the way I’m in the UK, can I file a complaint?

    86. Anuther_nubie says:

To reply to Jean from the 27th; good summarization on the numbers; the 1-866-951-1406 when you call during normal business hours only has a recording that says to call during normal business hours WHICH IS NEVER… and then it hangs up on you.

    87. Ok people me and my fiancee were banking on this and just by reading the reports I now realize that we got jacked however the phone number might be 1-866-951-1406 the adress has changed to Google Treasure Chest 837 E 9400 S Ste 233 Sandy UT 84094 postage from Orem UT the C.D came yeserday and I just now put it in my computer I am just hoping to find something that we can do from home so she can quit and got to school

    88. To follow up I just checked my band account and they are wanting authorization on $72.21 I have to go to my band tommorow and stop the authorization god I should kick myself in the a$$

    89. Sory bank for the typo’s also it is from Sandy UT for refunds at 866957 on 42809 from card #**************

    90. RE: Google Treasure Chest
Another thing I want to call attention to:
When I canceled my debit card and asked the bank to issue me a new card I found that my new card when it arrived had the same exact numbers as the old one did– same number the crooks have. All the bank had done was renew the card. So if you go to the trouble of canceling your debit/credit cards you might check this out. If I had activated that new debit card the crooks would have been in business again with my account as they state in their terms “if a charge is denied” they will keep trying to access you account later.
Another strange thing that has happened in my case: Over the weekend that my debit card was debited for the $72.21 by these crooks I was unable to access my bank account “online” because my account was locked up. You have 3 tries to get online with your password and then it will lock you out. I had been locked out of my account before I even tried one password!! I am paranoid and I’m led to believe that someone must have tried to get into my bank information and locked the account up. Sure was a strange co-incidence!

    91. I also was just about to pay the 1.97 for the kit but i decided to read all the terms and conditions before giving them my information and realized that there were underlying fees that would have to be paid every month. I would like to know if anyone out there has actually read the terms and conditions, then preceded to try this google treasure chest kit and paid and still continue to pay the 72.21 per month? And if so, have they been somewhat successful in making any money at it? Im not talking thousands of dollars per month, im just talking maybe enough money to make it worth while and is the work you do something that would be somewhat easy. I appreciate any responses to this comment.

    92. Initially this site came up and stupidly after reading this guys statement about how this was 100% trusted and guarenteed and totally risk and scam free, I entered my details. I was then connected to a video presentation about setting up a merchant bank account. An application form for IMAX Bancard Network then followed. At this point I became very suspicious and did not fill it in. However the next minute yet another link appeared re GoogleTreasureChest. It was at this point that the terms and conditions were made available for reading. I haven’t set up any password or acknowledged any membership number but I assume that because I had entered my card details re the shipping cost of $1.97 this could mean they are able to charge my card. I contacted Barclaycard who have blocked my card. This now means that nothing can be taken by anyone. Just tried to ring the 001-888-705-1275-001 but got no answer. Can anyone advise me if I need to do anything else or will what I have done suffice. Can’t believe I’ve been so stupid.
      Carol from Cheshire.

    93. Carol, don’t kick yourself. Those sales pages are good at what they do. It sounds like you’ve done enough, but others who have canceled their cards saw money still being taken. See the last dozen-or-so comments above yours.

    94. I signed up for the free kit. No big loss @ only 1.97. I never had an opportunity to view the treasure chest information as some have explained above. I waited, and waited and…you guessed it waited some more. I finally opened an account online to view my credit card statement and saw the charges of the 1.97 plus the first charge of 70+ dollars. I filed a dispute with the credit card company and said I was responsible for the first charge. They may be able to get the refund for the second charge. I cancelled my card so I know it will stop. As far as calling the number for the refund, I get nowhere! To all who want to be self employed, this is not a way to get employment. Stay away from these schemes, they are not good for your emotional health! If there is any advice from anyone, I am willing to hear it!!

    95. I did not sign up for this scam as I read them terms and conditions first…thankfully!

    96. My brother received this CD in the mail. put in in my computer and was looking around at it. In 5 mins my virus program shut it down and said that it had only been able to partially clean up a trojan horse. Anyone have any advise for me?

    97. To Erin on Apr 30th, 2009 at 2:31 am

The problem here is that Google Treasure Chest’s intention information is hidden in the T/C and this is not the “proper” disclosure of their intentions. That information about their intent should be printed next to the submit button for you to be able to make an informed decision. FTC guidelines on using the advance consent/negative option which these crooks are abusing states that (1) Disclosure must be Presented prior to the consumer incurring any
financial obligation (2)All material terms and conditions of the offer must be
disclosed in a clear and understandable manner

      About Consent
(3)The consumer must clearly and affirmatively consent
to the offer after all material terms and conditions
      have been disclosed:

Google Treasure Chest’s T/C are not presented “openly” upfront in a clear and understandable manner to be read before the transaction occurs but in fact are concealed (hidden)in links which negates giving the consumer the information about GTC’s intent. That is why so many are complaining, and this abuse is in fact against the law. It is called FRAUD!!!

    98. Erin – thank you. I just called to cancel.

After paying 1.97 (electronic shipment?) I never got any confirmation email and nothing in the mail. In Terms it says by paying 1.97 you open a 7 day free trial window. However, they never let you know how to access their site for trial. So now 10 days later I still dont know where my 1.97 went. The funny thing is, a couple days after I signed up I got a phone call from customer service asking me for another 3.88 for shipping after which they will send me the access code via email. When I asked the script-reading guy what was the 1.97 for, he said he had no idea about this charge and it wasnt from Google TreasureChest. That’s when I know it was a scam. Stupid me for thinking there is “free lunch”.

    99. THANKS FOR ALL THE INFORMATION. I AM ON A FIXED INCOME AND A LOOKING FOR SOMETHING INEXPENSIVE TO DO ON LINE AND I THOUGHT THIS WOULD BE ONE. I AM GOING TO CANCELL MY SUBSCRIPTION TO THIS SO CALLED BUSINESS. I STILL HAVE 4 DAYS BEFORE MY CARD GETS CHARGED. IF I CAN GET THRUGH TO THEM. I TO HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY INFORMATION ON HOW TO GET STARTED OR ANYTHING ELSE, EXCEPT THEY ARE GOING TO CHARGE MY CARD A MONTHLY FEE.

    100. clyde fox says:

JUST GOT OFF THE PHONE WITH CUSTOMER SERVICE. THEY HAD ME SIGNED UP FOR THREE DIFFERENT PRTOGRAMS AND WAS GOING TO CHARGE ME MONTHLY. TREASURE CHEST AND SAFE LOCK (1-866-957-0020 AND SOMETHING CALLED GRANT SPRING. 888-247-2155 i KNEW ABOUT THE TREASURE CHEST BUT NOT THE OTHER TWO.

    101. WOW! I REALLY WISHED I HAD READ THIS WEBSITE BEFORE I CLICKED THE ORDER BUTTON. I SIGNED UP ON THE 15TH AND WAS CHARGED ON THE 25TH. UNBEKNOWNST TO ME BECAUSE I DIDN’T RECEIVE ANY EMAIL CONFIRMATION OR THE CD. I READ THE FINE PRINT BUT LIKE MOST REASONABLE PEOPLE I FIGURED THE INITIAL START UP COST OF 72.21 WOULD BE WORTH IT IF I COULD ACTUALLY MAKE SOME MONEY OFF THE DEAL. I SEE NOW THAT THIS IS JUST ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF HOW DECEIVING PEOPLE CAN BE. FYI I CALLED THE NUMBER ON THE WEBSITE TO CANCEL GOT THE MSG STATING THIER OFFICE HOURS AND THEN THE CALL DISCONNECTED(866-951-1406) THEN FOUND (866-957-0020) SPOKE WITH RACHEL WHO TOLD ME I’LL BE REFUNDED IN 3-5 BUSINESS DAY AND GAVE ME A CONFIRMATION #. THEN I HAD TO CALL GRANTSPRING AT (866-274-2155) TO CANCEL THAT SUBSCRIPTION AS WELL! UUGGGHHH!!! SHOULD’VE KNOWN BETTER BUT YOU LIVE AND LEARN. DOES ANYONE THINK I SHOULD CALL AND CANCEL MY CREDIT CARD TOO? OR SHOULD I WAIT TO SEE IF THEY’RE REALLY GOING TO CREDIT MY ACCOUNT.

    102. littlemissblue says:

I signed up for this, too, but cancelled an hour later after finally reading the terms and conditions (stupid of me to read it AFTER i signed up). I was given a cancellation number…went to check my credit card account and i was charged 2.49 for s/h. I forgot all about it until the other day when i received my cd. i haven’t opened it yet, and i don’t plan too. i’m thinking if i should send it back? i called the number written on the package and after waiting for a few minutes, i was able to get a hold of someone. he asked for some information regarding my account and told me that it seemed like i had already cancelled my account days before (whew!) i also called Grantspring to cancel any account i may have unlocked and they told me i do not have any account set up with them. i’ve been checking my visa statement and so far, no 72 dollar charges have resurfaced. i have also called visa to ask them to hold any charges made by googletreasurechest and they said that it was not possible. they also do not advise cancelling my card for that reason alone. i asked for a way to protect my card from being charged by these fraudulent people and they told me that i just need to keep my cancellation number and that if this company charges me for anything more, i can contact visa, give them the cancellation number and they will contact and clear it up with the company. i will be very vigilant about this and keep on checking my cc statements to make sure i’m never charged for anything.i will also try calling googletreasurechest tomorrow and the next few days to see if they give me the same cancellation number (just to be sure i wasn’t not given a fake and random one) and to make sure that my account really was cancelled. i don’t know if i should send the cd back (that would also cost me s/h fee). and i also tried calling the refund number to get my 1.97 back and they said that i can’t because it’s for the U.S. postal service (which makes sense in a way).

    103. littlemissblue says:

regarding my post above, do you think that those actions are enough? anything i still need to do?

    104. I too fell into this trap. I was charged $1.97 initially on the 18th of April and then the $72.21 came out on the 28th of April. I since called the 866-951-1406 number to cancel the subscription, I had to hold for 8 minutes to reach someone. Then this morning I called the 866-957-0020 number to inquire about a refund. I was given a confirmation number and a promise that the money would be refunded within 7-10 business days. So I will monitor my account and respond with the results. As hard as it was, I found being pleasant to the agents was the best way to get results as they were nice back to me and that probably made them more inclined to cooperate with my requests.

    105. Chris S says:

I (like many others) fell their scam. I’m upset not just because of the money but because I normally know better than to be sucked into things like this.

I found this via a facebook advert, which was a link to Kevins Blog, which then linked me to the earnfastcashwithgoogle.com site. This site had that silly 5 minute timer, flashing lights, the pay only $1.97 deal nearly everyone has seen. This then led me into the main googletreasurechest.com after I gave my credit card.

So here is what I did regarding refunds. I did not call the number listed on my credit card statement , but I called 866-951-1406. After only a 4 minute hold, I explained the situation to the guy who was very polite, and I mentioned I was ok with the $1.97 charge but requested I be refunded the $72.21. He was very polite and agreed to refund the $72.21 already charged, to stop any recurring charges, provided me with my cancellation number, and that it should show up credited back with 5 business days. I thanked him, and also asked him about the 2 other companies I came across during my research, SafelockID and Grantspring. He said he had also cancelled safelock as well, but that I may have to call Grantspring at 888-247-2155, and then we ended our conversation.

Now I just hope they actually follow-through on my refund within the 5 business days. I also read about this on the Texas Attorney Generals site. I suspect googletreasurechest already know they are in deep sh*t because when I phoned the guy didnt give me a hassle about it! :)

I called the Grant Springs number, they were not able to locate me by email, phone# or mailing address, so here’s hoping my refund goes through and that there are no more charges from any of these companies.

    106. Will I didn’t give them anything. They didn’t give me anything but five calls a day wanting to know if I will give them something.I told them I contacted the BBB .She hung up I put block on phone call,I found out the terms is knot binning, its not even legal. What there doing is.Contact the BBB in utah and they will tell you what you need to know.

    107. Not Kevin says:

      Hope that helps.

    108. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhh… I should have read this or at least google before I do something very suspicious in action. my gosh.. I can’t believe that I have done stuff like this.

I called VISA and reported this and the customer service representative asked me to contact them first to cancel my membership, at least try to get a refund from them and then call VISA back.

So I called the “CUSTOMER SERVICE” 866-957-0020 and the guy said i’m going to be refunded, my membership has been canceled.

Did anyone get a full refund & no more charges after that? I still cannot believe the stupid scam company that I might have to cancel my creditcard and make a new one from other financial institution, geez..

and guys, watch out for this website as well..

      http://richgetsrich.com/or/?t202id=13493&t202kw=or-c8-8932323

he (Richard or whoever)is promoting the google treasure chest to work at home and make money. He was able to use whatever information that they give, and became successful using this program. yeah, whatever.

I hope that this website will be spreaded much more so that no more scamming or fraud happening. and Please, before you purchase something online, GOOGLE THE COMPANY, GOOGLE ANY INFORMATION FIRST!!! (from personal blogs, preferrably. much more honest feedbacks about the products or programs!) This is a big lesson for me as well.. hew.

    109. I have actually received the CD, but wasn’t expecting the $72.21 charge, either. I will call first thing Monday morning (I wish I had noticed the charge before the close of business day today). There is a phone number listed on the website that says “for refund.” Hopefully this will be stopped soon. I was also automatically signed up for the GrantSpring website, which I’ve also canceled to avoid being charged $24-something by 5/19/09. What a scam.

    110. The Viking says:

These guy’s also like to phone you personally and play good cop bad cop using all kinds of high pressure sales tactics to sell you some personal training. And it will only cost you between $6,000 and $15,000. And it all adds up to a total of 24 hours. WOW! They nabbed me for $1.97 and maybe another $70.00 or so. I’ll find out on Monday when i phone there and rip someone a new ass over the phone. Can’t wait. It’s going to be fun. Thank you guys for the numbers and the info.

      Good luck to everyone.

    111. Not Kevin says:

      Try this number: (801) 545-0628

    112. I tried this program and it is a ripoff. Not only that but when I went to download the CD program onto my computer the CD attempted to downloaded a trojan horse as well. Thank goodness for my security system on my computer. Buyer beware.

    113. Jonathan D Eborn home address: [removed by Joe]

This is the crook stealing our money.

Maybe a nice drive to his home will open his eyes. Along with a nice can of woop ass.

He deserves the living crap beat out of him.

    114. People… all you need to do to be sure no more charges are put on your Visa card is to tear it up and request a new one.

      Takes about 10 days.

      Problem solved…

THEN you can raise holy terror on the phone lines to get the original charges back. Try to do chargebacks also… GOOGLETREASURECHEST will be CHARGED $35 for the hassle… not you!

    115. Kind_Vapour says:

I got my kit. i was also onyl charged 1.98 for shipping for the “Google easy money” site, and got the “google tresure chest” cd.
lots of info on it, like 40 ebooks about how to do it. so far, it just seems like a scam, just the way its built. ill keep diggin through the cd, and let you know if anything is worth wile.
      although i doubt it.
i did call and cancel all memberships the second i signed up.

good luck, ill keep you posted.

    116. Karen Orsi says:

I received their “How To Make Money Online” Kit for free, as that was how it was advertised to me in a pop-up, but did not have time to use it. A sales associate at the company called me the day after I received it and began asking me stupid questions like
“Would you like to make six figures a year?” and “What would you like to do with that money?” being very vague throughout the conversation. Then he asks me if I have any credit cards, so I say, “Yes, I suppose my husband has some… why? I thought this was free?” Then he says, “Yes, it is. So what kinds does he have?” I called the FTC, and they seemed very interested in this exchange. I hope they get wiped off the net for scamming people with this “free” offer.

    117. hi
i almost got sucked into this as well, like some of the posts i have seen on this i saw there little countdown counter aswell.
and like 1 of these posts i read the fine print i saw all of this i thought oh hell no, dinnt even give them the chance to get my info, which when i clicked outta of it, i got a live agent wanting to chat immedity!,i told them no shut it off.
when i start seeing all of this flashing blinking stuff like i saw it already puts a red flag up in my mind.
so i googled it,ended up landing on this page which after what i have read today i am glad i did.
i know of others who do at home stuff on the net i am going to let them know about this as well.
what got me was there was some kinda thing suppoably on mnbc.com where some guy made all of this big bucks driving a new bmw yeah-yeah-yeah, i think yea right!.
nore than likely that was a scam too!
its like they say buyer beware,if its too good to be true more than likley it is.
take warning when you see that junk blinking flashing like that its a scam as far as i am concerned.
i hope you folks get your money back.

    118. I can’t believe I got suckered into this in a weak moment but I did. I got charged the $1.98 and then recieved a follow-up call from someone confirming my order. When she started asking me about my credit card (to verify, of course!) I smelled a rat and told them I wanted to cancel everything immediately. She of course said she couldn’t do that and to call Customer Service and gave me the #. When I called the number I got a recording saying to call during regular business hours – even when I DID call during those times. Thankfully I was able to cancel my card before they charged anything additional, so I got off pretty easily.

Let this be a warning to all of us: NEVER sign up for anything without reading the fine print. If you do decide to order something without knowing fully what it is, then go get a pre-paid credit card with a small amount on it to just cover the initial expense and nothing more. That way no continuous or monthly charges will go through.

    119. Hi again, one final note of caution to anyone interested: Just to “dot the i’s and cross the t’s,” I did keep trying to call customer service (using the 866-957-0020 number someone posted above — thank you!! — as I only got a recording at the 866-951-1406 number). I did get a confirmation number but since I read above about people canceling but still getting charged, my advise to all those who are seeking or received a cancellation # to CANCEL YOUR CREDIT CARD ANYWAY! GTC is clearly an unscrupulous entity and just because you got a # or were assured your account would be refunded it doesn’t mean they won’t continue to charge you. It is no big deal and you will get a new card within 7-10 biz days. Worth the wait and your peace of mind.

    120. Google Treasure Chest….awful scam! My bank called them for me, and we did a three way call, and was told that my money would be returned in 3 to 5 business days. We will see about that! Be sure you call your bank and see if they can help you.Google Treasure will continue to take out 72.21 until it is cancelled and you only have 30 days cancel to get your money back. They told me I could keep the CD, which is useless !!!
you can be sure i will never do anything like this again, ever.

    121. Melissa says:

Just wondering if anyone else finds this interesting??:
When I enter “google treasure chest scam” into the GOOGLE search engine, the first SPONSORED link is for google-kit.com, which comes up as a back door website into… you guessed it – googletreasurechest!!

    122. I just spoke to Serg at the 866 number and was told that I had missed the deadline to call and cancel. He would authorize 1/2 return of the amount if I didn’t receive the CD and a full return of the amount only if I did receive the CD and send it back to them. When I asked to speak to a supervisor (Serg was very polite as was I) because Serg said that was all he could do for me, his response was that their supervisors didn’t take phone calls.

    123. the rat race says:

same shit. Never trust websites of home business. all #’s 2 call for this is 1-888-705-1275 1800-922-4684. if u can’t get through or u can’t contact anyone call ya bank. file a complaint. have ya bank call the 1-888 number up. Cause ya number goes to a database where it won’t get answered. Ya bank number is going to have to get answered even when they put you on 3 way. Once you get contact be sure to get a cancellation # an RGA #. send the CD back and get ya money back

    124. The list keep growing & growing, i did cancell as soon as i seen the removal of $ my visa & this was on Feb 9th & they also told me that i would not get my money back
      never did receive the CD

    125. JUST WANTED TO SAY THAT I GOT MY MONEY BACK IN MY ACCOUNT TODAY. MY BANK WAS VERY HELPFUL. I DID ASK IF I SHOULD GET A NEW CARD AND THEY SAID NO, BECAUSE THEY HAVE A FRAUD ALERT ON MY ACCOUNT ON THIS COMPANY. HOPE EVERYONE HAS GOOD LUCK AND GETS THEIR MONEY BACK ALSO. ALSO I JUST RECEIVED IN AN E MAIL ANOTHER VERY SIMILAR OFFER, AND THEY WANT YOUR CREDIT CARD INFO BEFORE THEY SHOW YOU THE FINE PRINT. HA HA

    126. Other companyies…Yes check out Easy White Labs. Sign uo for their “trial Period” and the hit your account before the end of the “Trial” and say thet mailed you a months supply…I guess pigeon carrier. Also a Company with the exact tactics is “Trislim”. I for one am finished with these “Trial” scams. They claim you only have to pay S&H for the trial and you do..then Wham!!!

    127. RE: DANGER: Beware of Google Treasure Chest.

“ivetriedthat.com — I was scammed! Stay far away from Google Treasure Chest. They are operating the same deceitful acts as Google Money Tree. Their presell page claims to send you a packet of information on how to make money online for just $3.88 or in some places $1.97. They will charge you[r] card $72.21 every month if you do not stop them. Call your bank immediately!”

This is a scam. and here is why I believe it is fraudulent.

Some airhead posted a response on a blog discussion about this stating that this was each person’s fault because the information is presented in black and hite in the Terms and Conditions. This person either works for these companies or is so arrogant in their”superiority” over other people that they think they “get it” when they very obviously don’t. What is obvious os that this person knows nothing about the science of advertising and marketing that makes use of the repetition of verbal and visual imagery to condition a persons mind to accept, or at the very least, think positively about the message or product a company is trying to convey. A perfect example are hamburger ads. It doesn’t make any difference what hamburger company is doing the advertising, when you see an ad for their product, you get hunger signals and have a desire for their hamburgers. It doesn’t matter if you normally like hamburger “A” over hamburger “B”. After seeing the ad so many times telling you that you like “B”, you think you do and will hunger for it at that moment. This is a fact of the psychology of marketing.

First. Yes, technically they say you have 7 days to cancel but you are so rushed by the “countdown” (visual stimulation), that you feel hurried and thus you don’t pick up on everything. Your mind gets into a “skimming over things” state which results in your susceptibility to pre-programmed marketing information regardless of the facts. Unfortunately, after 60 years of this kind of programming, marketing companies have become experts in mind control. They know just which buttons to push. They have profiles of nearly everyone in the U.S. down to and including newborn infants.

Second, you should be able to cancel using the phone number given but you can’t. When you call to cancel, and we personally went through this, you are sent from one phone number to the next, each one denyng that you have an account until finally, if you persist in calling number after number after number, you get through to someone who lets you cancel – IF – it is within 7 days.

Third, Their use of deceptive marketing strategies. In the U.S., advertising and marketing programs have conditioned us to having a 30 day guarantee mindset. When we see something like this we are apt to skim over it because our minds already know what they are going to say – you have “30” days to cancel. Unfortunately, these companies know this which is why they use the 7 day guarantee. By the time you get around to canceling, Usually because you were waiting on their product, you are past their guarantee time.

Fourth, these companies also know that most people are to busy to make call after call after call at one time. They make a quick call to the Cancellation number given to cancel and can’t. They need to call a different number and the “call center” just happens to have the number you need to call. They are given a different phone number. So they make a note of it and then try to remember to call that number the next chance they get. This happens over and over. By the time they have reached the right phone number to cancel, they are usually to late to cancel. This is the way these companies operate. sadly, even though it is a fraudulent practice, this hasn’t been codified into law so technically they aren’t breaking any “on the books” laws. So they will keep on doing it, ripping off more and more people.

What can be done: Until enough people contact their local, state, and federal lawmakers telling them about this, it will continue unabated. Lawmakers need to be made to understand that this is an epidemic, a business fraud epidemic. In fact, it is a global pandemic of ripoffs made possible by the anonimity of the Internet. People like ivetriedthat.com need to keep revealing these scams so the world knows that each person alone isn’t affected but that there are thousands, even tens of thousands who are.

    128. i signed up and received the kit, looks like alot of very useful tools for everything from adsense to web design.I used a vanilla-MasterCard that only had enough balance to pay the shipping and handling.

When I put the DVD in my norton shut it down and quarantined the Trojan horse that was detected immediately.I had to eject the dvd before the fix could be finished.

the next time I put it in no trojan, just lots of useful free software, but i’m scared to un-zip any of it.Time to visit the ex-wife and do it on her machine

    129. Okay, I got the call today to sign up. I did read the small print of the ad and did see this $69.90 charge per month for access to their website. I hesitated and told them I didn’t have my wallet to purchase the program. I then looked up this website… deciding to google the company name they called themselves “Google ATM”. I then found this info with every ones comments. THANK GOD I DID. I was soo close. I need to make extra money and was almost stupid not to investigate this company before sending off any money.

I found their ad on a website…I don’t remember which it was, but I read on and thought…wow.. I could pay off my house if I worked it hard. I found something very interested. I went to two different websites and noticed the checks they display with the $5000 on it…is the same check, same account number, same date, and same position of fingers holding the check. If they were for real, why would you have to have a generic check…. wouldn’t you want to boost that you made that money. I don’t trust this at all. Thanks again for everyone’s postings. I’m so glad I did a little research. Here are the links to those two sites.
      stevegetscash.com

check it out. I never heard if anyone really got a packet?and how long it took.

    130. Okay…I see some people got the CD with a special virus. No Thanks. Sorry for those of you that got scammed… damn them. I was soo close to being there too. Something sounded fishy… too good to be true came to mind.

    131. Know Your Rights
Businesses must obtain your informed consent before enrolling you in a negative option plan. This is because, under traditional contract law, businesses cannot charge you for goods that you do not order. In fact, you are legally entitled to keep any unordered merchandise that you receive.

While the Negative Option Rule only applies to prenotification negative option plans, the FTC will take action against non-prenotification plans that it considers to be unfair or deceptive. If you were enrolled in a negative option plan without your knowledge, and the terms and conditions of the plan were not described in a clear and conspicuous manner, you may file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission.

To file complaint with FTC go to http://www.ftc.gov/ftc/cmplanding.shtm

~~Well, a lot of us were enrolled in a negative option plan without our knowlege and the plan was not discussed or described before they had our financial information as the law requires and they sure as “h e double l” didn’t have our consent.

    132. Is being awhile since i posted this,on the 4/20
i asked for my refund around the 13/20
      Today is the 5/12.
Tomorrow will be one full month,
I call twice, the guy claim they are the company that process the refund, but it will take some time. (3 to 5 days turn to be a full month?)
Has anyone actually received their refund yet?

    133. Yep, I’m a sucker too. I do a lot of Internet affiliate marketing, and thought this deal sounded good. I figured that I could scope out the info and then cancel in 7 days and only be out $1.97. I received my “kit” on the 8th day. There was some good and old outdated info in there but the “step by step” was truly lacking. I checked my capitolone credit card and found that I got charged $72.21, I called the UT number and was very nice to the lady as she explained that in order for my account to be charged I had to agree to the terms. I explained to her that I never received my login email and had not received the CD. I asked her to cancel everything and refund my charge. She gave me the refund number and said that it would be 10 to 15 days to see the refund on my credit card. I’ve waited 10 days…surprise no refund! I filed a dispute with capitolone over the charge. Hopefully, capitolone will not hold me responsible for the 72.21.

I was also enrolled into another drop shipping company that would charge me 32??? bucks a month for their service. I canceled that too, through a different email address and did not see a charge on my account.

Its true, you can’t get something for nothing = $1.97.

If you have some Internet marketing knowledge though, you can make some money with Google Adsence. It’s all up to you to figure it out though.

DO NOT JOIN GOOGLE TREASURE CHEST

    134. When you call these turkeys to get your refund, you should get the names of the people you talk to and write down the date and exactly what they tell you. The reps don’t always write down what they actually tell you.

    135. On 4/29/2009 I also encountered the same situation happen to me. I received a call from GOOGLE TREASURE CHEST to work from home which I only authorize a payment for the amount of $3.88 for the delivery of the disk WHICH I NEVER RECEIVED and on 5/15/09 I checked my bank account and I had an unauthorized charge of $72.21 made to my account and made my account overdraft. I have made a complaint to the Better Business Bureau. I demand my refund upon effective immediately. Their customer service are rude and have no professionalism skills and they’re a scam.

    136. YES! I received my refund today!

My original post was on 5/14/09

I guess Ive been very lucky!

      Again,

DO NOT JOIN GOOGLE TREASURE CHEST

Join google adsence directly and do some proper Internet marketing!

      Good Luck Everybody!

    137. Samantha says:

I just called to cancel using this phone number: 866-951-1406. I spoke with a representative called Rachel. Apparently, I called after the 30-day mark, so none of my money was refunded!

Also, these charges have been overdrafting my account, meaning I have be charged from my bank because I “spent” more money than I had! All in all, I’ve probably lost about $200 to this scam! This really sucks. Please let me know how everyone else makes out! I hope it ends up better for everyone else!

    138. Samantha says:

Also, in my filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, the phone number I called refers to THREE different businesses! Google Treasure Chest, Google Money Tree, AND Google Work-At-Home!

      They’re all scamming together!

    139. Chuck Turner says:

    140. I ALSO CANCELLED THEM IN A TIMELY MANNER. THEY STILL TOOK THE MONEY OUT. I REPORTED IT TO THE LOCAL POLICE DEPT. MY BANK IS GOING TO REFUND MY MONEY AND INVESTIGATE.

    141. To those who have gotten the virus my apologies but my machine is just fine I have AVG and I still have no virus I still have the C.D after a month and it is just sitting ther gathering dust. Some very usefull information is on that disc but since news of the virus I just might have to pay a visit to the guy that stole my wife and mess his pc up a little. To those who have some amount of success please let me know of something because my degree in criminal law is appareantly no good in this economy and I am so tired of burger king it aint even funny. Any amount of help would be appreciated

    142. I too experienced the same scenario, only it began with a “make more money by filling out surveys” prompt. I requested information and agreed to pay the 1.97 for postage. I received a phone call the next day from what I assume was the same company confirming my card number and informing me that I would be charged 42 a month. I immediately canceled and thought that was it. 2 days later I saw a charge on my card from A1 member for 72 dollars. Immediately called and after some rangling canceled and got a promise of a refund. I also immediately reported it to my bank and disputed the charge. Today I look on my card and yes I was refunded the 72 dollar from A1 member only to see I now have a charge from Google Chest! After two phone calls and arguing about the small print and the email I never received, they agreed to cancel and refund my money. Only I am talking with Grant Masters now, not Google Chest. They are affiliated I am told so I also immediately called my bank and disputed the the 38. For good measure I had them issue me a new card and change my number, an inconvenience but will ensure no other charges from any “bump” sales will be registered on my card. That is what the salesman called it when I tried to find out how I had signed up for one thing and now was being charged for another. He called it a “bump sale.” It is good to read the “terms of agreement.” However the terms of agreement would only open after I had given my information (should have been my first clue) and never mentioned automatic memberships with affiliates who would then charge me x amount of dollars. I think like the mythical hydra, this serpent has many heads.

    143. This came in from Mariann via email:

Indeed it is a scam. A charge showed up on my bank statement I could not figure out. When I called the number they said they were a third party customer service line, they wouldn’t tell for who, after 10 minutes of berating I finally found out the charge was an automatic membership renewal for a membership I knew nothing about. When they mentioned Google Treasure Chest I put the pieces together. I had ordered a CD from Google that was suppose to help me make money from home. The CD came with no explanation and was completely useless so I put it aside and figure since it was only $1.97 I hadn’t lost out, that was until I saw my bank account statement. The so-called membership has been cancelled and my account credited. Trust me I will be going to the bank report this.

    144. dailyartist says:

All of these type scams are trading on the “Google” name as this places their ads and websites high on the search scale to be found, plus, most surfers trust that the “Google” connection means it is legitimate. What these scams have in common is that they bait you with some kind of “kit” which you think is your only cost. What they are really selling is membership in worthless websites filled with ads and software that can be found for free anywhere on the internet. What they are neglecting to do is inform the consumer that their intent is to enroll you in a monthly membership and pass your financial information on to other cohorts. Just having an obscure link of terms and conditions that is buried at the bottom of the page is not sufficient to fulfill FTC dot com law on showing what their intent is. The law requires that businesses must show disclosure (intent) in clear and conspicious easily read disclosure near where you submit your financial information if other terms or conditions are part of the transaction and should also have a place for you to check showing that you understand that further debits are going to be made when you submit the transaction and your financial information. All terms and conditions of a transaction should be disclosed before they have your financial information. These scammers are claiming you should have read the t/c before you signed up but they are the ones that are not complying with FTC law on clearly and conspiciously publishing their t/c along side where you submit financial information so you can make an informed decision.

I was caught in the Google Treasure Chest scam myself but was lucky enough to get my money returned under the 30 day guarantee (see next paragraph) that GTC has but I used the refund phone number that was connected with the $72.21 unauthorized debit showing up on my bank account statement. I was never able to get any answer to the GTC support phone number, my e-mails were not answered and my mail sent to Google Treasure was returned as undeliverable. I was even able to keep their worthless dvd kit as I guess they did not want to refund that $1.97 also under the 30 day refund guarantee. I made a complaint report to the Utah BBB against GTC and when BBB sent my complaint to GTC it was returned back to them as “undeliverable”.

I called 888-705-1275 to cancel right after I joined…..They said I did not appear on system yet….call back Fri. or Mon….get canellation # . Said it should be no problem. The person I talked to was a 3rd party customer service rep and I got her on fitst call. Said you have 7 days to cancel before the $70 charges hit……but we shall see when I talk to someone to cancel. I never do s..t like this. Knew I had screwed up as soon as I hit SUBMIT. Called my credit card too. Said they would help when charges appear.

    146. Jennifer Carnahan says:

I too got caught in this scam (even after my husband warned me to read the fine print). It is spelled out – and I mean literally – in the fine print. it says you will be charnged seventy two dollars and twenty one cents. So it’s legal -not ethical and poorly written by all style guides and standards.

What I recommend to everyone is to call and cancel immediately, at this number: 866.951.1406 . The call center number people are useless and will only give you the mailing address for the corporate office, which is not where you send your disk back for returns, but of course will delay the process long enough that your 30 days will lapse and you will find yourself in my situation, calling on the 31st day and getting nowhere.

Then, I highly recommend you cancel your card – based on what I’m reading, many people have been charged even after cancelling, but if the card number is no longer valid, they cannot charge you.

    148. I called the customer service # 866-951-1406 shown by Jennifer above. The guy said I don’t show up anywhere on their data base??? Maybe another stall ploy or I got lucky and my order was somehow incomplete, or whatever. I have notified my credit card co and my bank….so maybe my stupidity will only skin me up a little. Looks like the FTC is closing in on them though. Just paint me with a “stupid” brush.

    149. Is there anyway to report them to google? I signed up, and want my money back, but they refused. Can anyone tell me how to contact Google to report them?

    150. Hi! I was tricked by that scam too! The only thing about that, is I did get a cd from them , but it doesn’t really do exaclty what they advertise. But I will have all of you to know that I believe I may have got the last laugh. When I sent in for the cd, I used a prepaid debit card and after that I used the rest of the money I had on there off. So I bet they felt like a damn fool thinking they were going to get some $71.00 off of my account. They may have gotten the $1.97, but that’s it! To everyone else, please remember, if you are going to try something out in charging, never use a credit or debit card with your bank information on it.

I have been a victim of the Google Treasure Chest scam and I have regained my money ($72.21) after much stress and hassle. I have decided to write about it in my personal blog in hopes that my experience would help others avoid my mistake. If you would care to come read about my experience with this scam I hope that you might gain some tips or help for your own situations. My blog is not an advertisement blog but just a place to try and help others who have been caught as I was in this scam. 152. Unfortunately, I just joined the list of those scammed by google treasure chest. I changed my mind about signing up, but then before I quit, an agent came on and offered me the kit for $0.99 and I thought…I can rist a dollar! Whoops, never got a kit from them and they took $72.21 from my account. I called them and I talked to a terribly rude dude called James or Joseph and he said ” Too bad. We can’t refund your money!” I said “am going to report this” and he said “good luck with that” and hang up on me! Then I called again and talked to another guy and he hang up on me too. I called a week later and talked to a lady who gave me an RGA number so that I can return the kit, for a refund if it ever came in the mail. It has never come. They told me to call back back if it hasnt come by end of may. so today is 1st of June. Just called and they said their system is down, I should call them back in 20 minutes. I’ll see what happens..if not am going to haunt them to their graves! Its not about the money..its about taking people for a fools ride! That’s just wrong on so many levels. I guess next time we want to make quick bucks, we’ll all be wiser!

    153. I was taken in by Google Treasure Chest in early April. About a week after the $1.97 for the CD was taken out of my account, the surprise of $72.21 was taken out. I actually received the CD, but read that there’s a trojan in it that mines your personal information, so I never played it. By that time, I realized that I got taken in by a scam and wouldn’t have played it anyway.

I called right away and was told that the refund had been processed. About a week later, I called again and was told that there had been an error and they would run the refund again. To make a long story short, that was in mid April and I still don’t have my refund. Every time I’ve called, except for the first time, I have been given the run-a-round. When I called today, I was told that GTC has 30 days to get the money back into my account, even though I’ve consistently been told that it takes 7-10 business days.

I’ve already talked to my bank and have decided to go through them to file a dispute for the $1.97, $72.21, and the overdraft fee they caused of $34.00. I was going to wait the 30 days out, but am going to go and and file the dispute.

I’ve read, too, that it’s recommended that your card be cancelled and a new one issued. I’ve also read that the Attorney General for the state of Texas has filed a suit against the company and the owner. Perhaps we should all file complaints with our state’s Attorney Generals!

I, too, wonder why Google is allowing this to go on. Their name is trademarked, so it shouldn’t be difficult at all for them to put a stop to it being used, especially in this manner.

    155. Yeah I just checked my bank account and those assholes charged me the 72.21…So i have been trying to call today to cancel my membership…ugh…stupid….

    156. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. I finally got a hold of a “customer service” representative today at 1-866-957-0020. I had tried calling several other numbers and even called my credit card company as they were the ones who were able to tell me what the charge was for. I have been informed that my account has been cancelled, which I was given a confirmation number for. However, I was told that I cannot be refunded as it is past the 30 days. I signed up for the CD on April 20th and only received my statement with the charge for $72.21USD yesterday. I am extremely frustrated as I never received an emails with any account information or passwords so I just assumed I was paying the $1.97 for the CD. I didn’t even received the CD until mid-may and as others have mentioned my computer warned me it could contain a virus. I am very disappointed that I am now out of pocket $85CDN for something that could have possibly harmed my computer. I hope some sort of action will be taken to prevent this from happening to others and those who have been scammed can get their money back.

    158. I got suckered into this scam too! I am about to take legal action on this. It has been about a month since I called to get my money back. They tell me the same thing every time I call. “It will take 5-7 business days to get the refund.” Well I have called every 10th day, I still have not received the money back. I will be calling them again tomorrow and see what they have to say. The first couple times they said that there was an error in getting my return. There was only one person that I spoke with that seemed real enough. He had told me that he put my refund on paper to be back within the 7-10 days. But we will see what happens. Ill Keep everyone posted on my actions.

    159. I never got my money back, all they said is the refund agency is different from their customer service thing, gosh is being 2 months, i quit, fine they can keep my 72 dollars, ignorant punks

    160. ezekiel – don’t give up mate! It’s your money and they stole it from you.

Watch this short video – it tells you how to get your money back from the scammers:

Getting your money back from Scammers:
      http://www.chrismalta.com/scamtip1.asp

You don’t have to contact the scammers again – just your credit card company – let them get your money back for you. This is the best way to get back at the scammers and get your money back. Scammers hate chargebacks! ;)

    161. Hey guys,

I’ve read almost all of these comments and I am just so ashamed that I fell for this.
If something seems too good to be true then it probably is. I will always read the fine print from now on. The saying that nothing comes for free is so true.
I’ve called all three numbers that have so far stemmed from this scam (google treasure chest, grant spring, and safelock id). Safelock was the only helpful company i reached. Their customer service was nice and canceled my account and said they would refund my money. I’m still watching out for the refund.
HOWEVER, after watching a video from Chris Malta, I called my bank. Forget about these customer service numbers. They aren’t there to help you, your bank is. I called mine and requested a chargeback. My bank is now disputing all the fraudulent charges. Good luck everyone, stay sharp and don’t take anymore wooden nickles :)

    162. I fell for the scam as well. I paid the $1.97 for S/H but I didn’t get charged the $72.00. It may have something to do with my card not allowing certain transactions to be made. I’m not sure what happened, I’m just so glad I didn’t get the charge.

I did get the CD and it has alot of mess on it that just doesn’t make sense. It doesn’t tell you how to get anything started. It has alot of software you can load on your pc and alot of money making pdf files. My laptop has virus blocker software and it found alot of Trojan files on the CD.

I wonder who are all these people leaving posts on how this is a great opportunity and how they are making money from this. I have yet to see how this benefits anyone. I’m a pretty technical person and have been in the computer field for some years but I can’t understand this CD to save my life!

    163. Steps to Take to Recover Your Money
      1. Cancel your credit or debit card–Get a new card with new number! Your financial information has been compromised and you will be getting further debits to that card , If not now then they could come back later when you are unaware.
      2. File a fraud charge with your credit card or bank and let them sort it out. They have more muscle to go after this sort of crime. Explain to them about all the consumer complaints that are on the internet and insist that they do charge-back or file a fraud charge. Your bank or credit card organization has all the tools necessary to find out where the charges are coming from, what business is involved, addresses and phone numbers connected to the charge and etc. You may not know or have access to this information. The banks and credit card org have all this at their fingertips and are obligated to handle the problem that has resulted.
      3. File a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission. Their job is to monitor and go after these types of scams. http://www.ftc.gov/ftc/cmplanding.shtm
      4. File a complaint with your state Attorney General and also with the Attorney General of Utah (where a lot of the phone numbers seem to be located)
      5. Filing a complaint with the BBB is toothless as the scam already is rated with a “F”.
      6. File complaint at http://www.ic3.gov/default.aspx This is a place to report internet crime and is a combination gov agency of FBI, White collar Crime and Bureau of Justice Assistance.

    164. go to the BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU WEBSITE and fill out a complaint. if we all go file a complaint they will take notice. http://www.bbb.org

I JUST CALLED THEM AND THEY PROMISE TO SEND ME THE KIT AND GIVE ME BACK THE DIFFRENCE WITHIN 10-14 BUSINESS DAYS….. I GOING TO WAIT AND SEE. THEY HAVE A WEBSITE, BUSINESS NAME AND SO ON AND SO WORTH. THEREFORE MUST BE REGISTER TO DO BUSINESS IN THE USA. A FEW MONTHS AGO I RAN INTO A COMAPNY THAT KEEP TAKING MONEY OUT OF MY ACCOUNT AND I WENT TO THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU WEBSITE AND I GOT ALL MY MONEY BACK AND NEVER HEARD FROM THEM AGAIN.

      http://www.bbb.org

    165. dailyartist says:

      @donstell noel
Your advise on reporting to the BBB is fine as far as it goes but don’t expect any “real action” to be taken. All the BBB does is take your complaint and send it on to the business you are complaining about. If the business is a scam or is unethical in its practices then it just ignores the complaint knowing that BBB will not do anything except post a bad report which does not deter the con artist business from continuing on with their scammy way of bilking the consumer.
That is what was done in my case of reporting Google Treasure Chest to the Utah BBB. I filed complaint against GTC and When my complaint was sent by BBB to GTC it was returned back to BBB as “undeliverable” and BBB told me that my complaint was “closed” unless I had more information or addresses to use. I then sent the list of all phone numbers and addresses that are being posted by complaining consumers on Strangely perfect website (http://strangelyperfect.tv/3401/google-treasure-chest-phone-and-address-list/) connected to the google treasure chest scam and this time my complaint was forwarded to the national BBB and they resent my complaint. This time Gtc responded with a form letter saying that they believed that they were complying with all laws necessary and no further action would be necessary in their case. How could they conclude that no further action would be needed? BIG DEAL. I guess they know that BBB does not have the muscle to do anything except act as mediator.

If you really want some action taken you need to go file fraud charges or “transaction dispute” on each unauthorized debit with your cc card org and your bank. This forces the con artist to have to prove that they have legal right to be able to charge your account and believe me they don’t have a leg to stand on since they are
doing the debiting without the proper legal permission that is required by law. They will have to show that they have acquired your legal permission to debit your account. When they are shown that you will really press the matter with the proper authorities they will probably refund your money if they think that will stop the legal action that might possibly result if the matter is pressed. A great many people that have been victimized will probably not take any action and chalk it up to a lesson learned and that is money the con artists stuff their pockets with. The few victims that will go ahead and press fraud charges with their financial institution will probably have the better chance of getting their money returned as the con artists will want that threat to go away without consequences to them and will probably return your money if you insist, and if I were you I would press for the return of every cent that they took from you and not settle for just some of it back.

    166. Yep, I agree with the fox :)

BBB a bit of a waste of time, but definately do the steps mentioned above:

File a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission. Their job is to monitor and go after these types of scams. http://www.ftc.gov/ftc/cmplanding.shtm

File a complaint with your state Attorney General and also with the Attorney General of Utah (where a lot of the phone numbers seem to be located)

File complaint at http://www.ic3.gov/default.aspx This is a place to report internet crime and is a combination gov agency of FBI, White collar Crime and Bureau of Justice Assistance.

$72.21 is not major fraud sure, but $72.21 times however many thousands of people got scammed IS a big fraud and if they get hundreds or thousands of complaints AG, IC3.gov and the FTC will realise the scale of the scam and will eventually take action.

    167. Do not listen to these people who state this is not a scam. They are plants from the company Google Chest. The only way to get your money back is to go to your credit card company or your bank and tell them this company is a scam and you did not authorize this charge and you want a CHARGE BACK. This is the only way \I have been trying to get my money back since May 15th. I have been to the Attorney General, BBB and the FTC.. The FTC stated that everytime they track them down and get to the address they are gone. They are very good at what they do. Forget trying the upteen numbers. They give you the run around to tire you out and keep your money. It is to much paperwork and they have to prove their service or product to keep your money on a chargeback.
That is the only way. Go to the Fraud Dept. of your bank, file a claim for a charge Back. That is the only way you will ever see your money again.

You must call either Safe lock, Google Chest or Grant Springs and Cancel your account first. Otherwise they will keep charging your card. Depends which one got your card number
Safe Lock: 866-879-1260 Grant Springs: 888-247-2155

    168. Nancy is bang on the money. 100% correct.

This is a scam. They stole YOUR money.
      Don’t jump through their hoops!

Get your bank or credit card company to do a CHARGEBACK on any unauthorised transactions.

This will get you your money back AND cost the scammers money on top.
It hits them where it hurts (in their pocket) and it works.

      See: http://www.chrismalta.com/scamtip1.asp

Go to your credit card company or your bank and tell them this company is a scam and you did not authorize this charge and you want a CHARGE BACK. FTC is seriously understaffed and underresourced and cannot keep up with this scam.

By the way, this scam is starting to make the TV news. Check this short video news report by ABC about this scam:
      http://abclocal.go.com/wpvi/story?section=news/special_reports&id=6873047

I just hope that one day these thieves get caught and punished for stealing millions of dollars from honest, hardworking people who are struggling to make ends meet in these hard times.

    169. The above posters are absolutely right! I spent a month talking to the “CSR’s” at the numbers that are listed attempting to get my money back. They are pros at giving the “run-around.” I finally went to my bank and filed a dispute for the $72.21 and the original $1.97. The money was credited to my account within 10 days of filing the dispute!

      (taken from http://scam-googletreasurechest.blogspot.com

Today I spent some time on the FTC website reading the lawsuit that FTC has filed against the corporation running the Google Treasure Chest Scam (and other Google named scams). Hope you will take the time to go read it also. http://www.ftc.gov/os/caselist/0923060/090622googlemoneytreecmplt.pdf
It is very enlightening and certainly vindicates what I have been saying all along about this being a scam and just why it was a scam. I don’t know what the final outcome of this lawsuit will be but I hope these con artists get locked up and the key thrown away. From what is being alleged in the lawsuit the con artists were no better than a burglar that breaks into your house and steals what they can get their hands on.

What seems to me to be so strange about this in regard to the mentality of the con artists is “What were they thinking?” Did they really think they could get away with such blatant disregard for the law? And another thing, why did it take the law so long to go in and take some action.
I guess the con artists think that if they out-source part of the action overseas that the law won’t be able to reach them but they better brush up on the law concerning the Electronic Fund transfer act and regulations. The law can still reach them and they can’t hide–it just might take a little longer but sometimes that makes the penalty even more stiff when it finally comes home to roost.

The counts being levied against GTC in the lawsuit:
Count 1. Failure to disclose material terms
Count 2. False or unsubstantial representations regarding income
Count 3. False representations regarding affiliation (misleading one to think Google was behind them)
Count 4. Violation of the electronic Fund Transfer Act and regulation E.
(it seems that they should have gotten written authorization or similar pre-authorization
for further debits to your account plus provide you with a copy of such. Also it seems that in the unauthorized debiting of your account they did not even have proper authorization to show to your financial institution to make such a recurring debit. Makes you wonder what other loop holes the financial institutions ignore. I would think that to debit your account electronically that the banks would need to have some kind of proof showing that such a debit could even be made. )
      Section 907(a) of the EFTA, l 5 U.S.C. j I 693e(a), provides that a ”preauthorized
electronic fund transfer from a consumer’s account may be authorized by the consumer only in
writing, and a copy of such authorization shall be provided to the consumer when made.”
      Section 90349) of the EFTA, 1 5 U.S.C. j 1 693a(9), provides that the term ‘- ‘preauthorized
electronic fund transfer’ means an electronic fund transfer authorized in advance to recur at
      substantially regular intervals.”

In numerous instances, the defendants have debited consumers’ bank accounts on
a recurring basis without “obtaining” or “providing” a copy of a written authorization signed or similarly authenticated by the consumer for preauthorized electronic fund transfers from the consumer’s account, thereby violating Section 907(a) of the EFTA, l 5 U.S.C. j l 693e(a), and Section
      205. l 0(b) of Regulation E(a) I 2 C.F.R. j 205. 10(b).

My advice to anyone who was involved in this scam and still having a hard time trying to contact these con artists to get their money returned is to copy the FTC lawsuit PDF and take it to the bank to show them how you were swindled. The bank has some responsibility in this matter too as they maybe should have required more proof that the debit had some merit or backing before they sent your money off to the con artists.

    173. I have been waiting for my refund ever since may 1, 2009. All i have been getting is promises

    174. Has anybody ever got their refund back?????????????? All i keep getting is excuses from those crooks

    175. Greg,
Yes, I did. As I said in my earlier post.. THE ONLY WAY, THE ONLY WAY to get your money back is to go to your bank and file a fraudulant dipute CHARGE BACK. You have to use the words, CHARGE BACK.
Or if it is a credit card… to the same… you need to charge the company back the money under a fraudulant claim they used your card without authorization. They are scam artists who will not spend the money it causes to fight the claim…
I got my money back in 2 days… this is the only way. Stop wasting time calling the hundreds of 800#s they have.. FTC does nothing, BBB nothing…

    176. Nancy is correct a chargeback is the way to get your money refunded.
      See: http://www.chrismalta.com/scamtip1.asp

I agree BBB is probably a waste of time, but FTC do not do nothing – they have brought criminal charges against Google Money Tree / Treasure Chest.

So anyone who complained to FTC had an effect and people can still complain as then you will be on their list of victims for compensation/refunds. http://www.FTC.gov

    177. I tried to file a dispute about 3 weeks ago my bank said it’s already too late. I’m so sick of those 800 numbers

    178. Hey Nancy, if you don’t mind me asking what bank are you with? Because i just talked to somebody in the dispute department at Bank of America and i mention charge back she said the only thing she can do is a dispute. She didn’t know what i was talking about when i said charge back.

    179. I got my refund back after filing a dispute with my bank, Woodforest. That was after about a month of fooling around with customer service and getting the run-around. I made sure I told the people at the bank that I had been getting the run-around for a month because they said it was probably too late, too, until I told them that.

Anyone who has been swindled by these guys should make one call to customer service (just for the shear “correctness” of giving them a chance) and then go directly to their bank and file a dispute. Don’t keep calling customer service because they are not going to help you. All you’re going to get is one excuse (lie) right after another with them.

    180. @Greg – 3 weeks should not be too late. It depends which country you live in but I think it’s 60 days in the US, Australia and New Zealand and 120 days in the UK.

My advice to you is go to http://www.ftc.gov/os/caselist/0923060/090622googlemoneytreecmplt.pdf and print this document out and take it to your bank as proof that your money was taken from you illegally. This document also shows that the bank released your money without the proper signature agreement for the transaction that would show that you agreed to have your account debited numerous times and the bank has some responsibility for releasing your money improperly. It should not matter how long the time frame since your money was in fact stolen by fraud.

    182. Greg,
I use Washington Mutual, well now Chase…
What I did is ask for the Fraud Department. Then from there I had to fax over papers showing them the proof I had against the company and the steps I had taken to show this company is a scam. Print out your records if you filed complaints to the BBB and FTC etc…
Tell the bank that you want to file a fraud charge against the company and a charge back… because the FTC states that a charge back is the only way to get your money back. I also filed a case with my local sheriffs dept and that helped as well. Its a pain… but I did get my money back that way. Going through the bank is the only way. But you need to get the Fraud Dept… and take it from there.
Let me know if I can help you further, Nancy

I also fell for same scam. Called my VISA and they told me I had to cancel account ( DO NOT JUST CANCEL ACCOUNT WITH VISA, IT WILL NOT BE ENOUGH AS CHARGES WILL SHOW UP AGAIN) but also call each individual service shown on statement to cancel service and ask for confirmation numbers each time. Call bank back with confirmation numbers for service suspension and refund requests. That is the only way VISA can give protection from further charges and file dispute for chargeback if refund is not made within time stipulated by the service.

I’ve done what they have told me, waiting to see…

Hope this helps and Good luck!

Also, do file complaints to bbb.org, ftc.gov and IC3.gov.

I’m in Canada and I was also scammed. Back in April I ordered a DVD for $1.97 about working from home which I have never received. I was billed $72.21 the end of April, nothing in May, $72.21 in June and $68.48 in July. I contacted my credit card company (BMO-Mastercard) and they told me that all 3 charges were from the same organization and gave me the phone number I should call and cancel this “membership” (I didn’t realize I even joined!!!) Well…I can’t get through to that phone number or any of the other phoned numbers I have found on the WEB. I always get the same response. “The number you reached is not activated”. My bank is saying I have to cancel the membership before they can guarantee no more charges will go through. I have been given a new credit card with a new number but the bank says they can still put charges through unless I cancel! If anyone has any advise or phone numbers I would really appreciate any help I can get. Thanks!!!

      @NEEDADVICEINCANADA
What you need to is go print out the pdf (detailing the lawsuit that Federal Trade Commission has against Google Treasure Chest) and take it to your bank to show that you have been scammed and have done everything in your power to try and get your money back. Have them file a dispute charge on all the debits as they were all illegal and against the law.
      http://www.ftc.gov/os/caselist/0923060/090622googlemoneytreecmplt.pdf
You won’t be able to reach GTC to cancel anything as phones have probably been shut down.
Your bank has some responsibility to return your money as the debits were not authorized by you and the debits were not made lawfully. If your bank does not co-operate in seeing that your money is replaced I would change banks if it were me.
I would also suggest that you contact the Attorneys listed in that lawsuit and ask to be put on the list for consumers to be compensated for their money losses.

      To dailyartist

Thanks very much for the great advice. I will definitely follow it! I can’t believe I got myself into this mess. I have learned a lesson for sure.

    188. […] 01/30/2009 (IveTriedThat.com): Beware of Google Treasure Chest […]

    189. I have not even been on Google except for rare occasions. I had rather use a different search engine. This month I get my bank statement and there are two charges from this company 2 weeks apart. I called the first one they say (not that I believe them) that my information was removed and I would be getting a refund of the fraudulent charge they put on my card. I called the second one this one is out of the Phillipines. You can hardly understand them. They are extremely rude, they hang up on you, and this includes their so called supervisors. Gee never a manager around. They stated I spoke with someone and requested. In no way I did not. Believe me I would recognize a accent like they have. I have requested my refund on my card. I have no information on this company and have not requested any. They state they will cancel my account but they are going to keep my money. I am calling my bank and reporting them as a fraudulent service and asking for their help to get my money back. I also just wanted to let people know DO NOT USE GOOGLE. They are only into stealing from your friends, family, and even just acquaintances. I am sorry but I do not wish this on anyone. After I called the supervisor hung up on me. This is not a company I would ever deal with and I hope everyone else will join in with me. No I am not finished yet. I will take it all the way to the top. Even as a cyber crime. DO NOT USE GOOGLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    190. Karen-

Google is in no way affiliate with the scam. They are using Google’s popularity and name to rip people off. You aren’t talking to customer service reps at Google. It’s impossible to call Google.

    191. It is not a surprise that people is put in a situation that seems legitim at a first look. People are being ripped off when for not looking before accepting, just because the ad is in a respectiful tablid. They say in the small print that you will be ripped off. If you don’t read, you will be ripped.

All that you hear about the most stunning technology and this and that is abosolutely and by default, bullshit!!

Start reading the shit before accepting !

    192. Thats why i am really afraid to work from home when u pay jobs they will not refund your money back,Then you cant get their number to get your money back its a mess.
